Angels Acquire Cron, Grichuk In Big Trade With Rockies

The Los Angeles Angels have been making some bold moves and are loading up ahead of the MLB‘s trade deadline. In a bid to bolster their lineup and chase down a playoff spot, the Angels recently acquired C.J. Cron and Randal Grichuk. Are these moves enough to help propel them to a playoff spot? 

The Angels are currently four games behind the Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays, making their path to the playoffs tricky. They also face tough competition from the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, adding further hurdles to their playoff aspirations. 

In an offensive sense, the additions of Cron and Grichuk, coupled with the potential return of Mike Trout, certainly makes the Angels’ lineup more imposing. Add to that the remarkable presence of Shohei Ohtani, and you have a team that could potentially wreak havoc on opposing pitchers.

However, their starting pitching remains a cause for concern. The Angels’ recent acquisition, Lucas Giolito, does not offer a surefire solution. Giolito’s numbers are not encouraging, and his performance doesn’t paint him as a high-end arm. 

As the team stands now, betting on the Angels to make the playoffs is considered a long shot. The Angels’ moves certainly illustrate their determination to break their playoff drought. As they strive to rebuild their team and regain relevance in the ultra-competitive MLB landscape, the question remains, are they doing enough to be a competitive baseball team? Currently, there are more questions than answers with this Angels squad.
