How Washington Can Beat Utah: 5 Keys To Victory

5. Match the Physicality
Kyle Whittingham's Utah Utes are routinely one of the most physical teams in the country. This year is no different. They were embarrassed on the national stage a few weeks ago by the Oregon Ducks and will looking to make amends. Washington needs to be ready for a fight.
1. Stay on Schedule
The Washington Huskies enter Saturday's game against the Utah Utes as 9.5-point favorites. The Huskies have one of the nation's best offenses but Utah is first in the country in third down defense. The Utes surrender only 24.76% of third downs for conversions. Washington will need to stay out of third and long.
2. Protect Michael Penix
The Huskies offense looked outstanding against USC but pushing around the Trojans defense is not the same as Utah. Previous opponents have successfully pressured Penix and thrown the Huskies offense off. Utah is eighth in the country in sacks per game with 3.4.
3. Stay Balanced
The best way to keep Utah's defense from taking over is to maintain offensive balance. Michael Penix and the aerial attack of Utah is great but Washington will need to run the ball some to keep Utah's defense from teeing off on him. The Huskies ran the ball for 316 yards against USC while throwing for 256. They won't get those numbers against Utah but that kind of balance would be ideal.
4. Defense Must Be Ready
Utah does not have great offensive numbers but the Utes are coming around on that side of the ball. They are averaging more than 400 yards per game in the past three weeks and the offense has looked good since turning to Bryson Barnes full-time. The Huskies defense is 94th in the country in yards allowed per game and needs to be better.
