NL Cy Young Odds Rankings: Gallen on Top, Kershaw Jumps Strider

Zack Cook

Host · Writer

MLB‘s Senior Circuit is stacked with elite pitchers, with some new faces joining as potential candidates to win the NL Cy Young.

Stay ahead of the game and elevate your sports betting experience with SportsGrid and our daily MLB game picks.

1. Zac Gallen +210 (Last week: +250)

Zac Gallen is establishing himself as one of the top arms in the NL. When he’s been good over his last five starts, he’s been very good, but when he’s struggled, he’s really struggled. Gallen has allowed five runs in multiple starts, which is somewhat concerning. Still, the Arizona ace has tallied an impressive 7-2 record, along with a 3.09 ERA and 93 strikeouts. Even with a difficult last appearance, Gallen is now listed as the odds-on favorite to capture the NL Cy Young and was bet down from +250 to +210 over the last week.

Last Start: June 11 vs. Detroit Tigers (5 2/3IP, 10H, 5ER, 5SO)

Next Start: June 16 vs. Cleveland Guardians

Where Does Gallen’s Teammate Corbin Carroll Rank in the NL MVP Race?

2. Clayton Kershaw +550 (Last week: +1200)

Age is just a number for Clayton Kershaw. The future Hall of Famer has gotten off to another solid start, posting a dominant 8-4 record, paired with a 2.95 ERA and 98 punchouts. Consistency has been the name of the game for Kershaw, and with him staying healthy in 2023, it’s no surprise he’s right in the conversation, leapfrogging Spencer Strider for the second-shortest odds. Kershaw has been bet down over the last week from +1200 to +550.

Last Start: June 14 vs. Chicago White Sox (6IP, 6H, 2ER, 5SO)

Next Start: June 20 @ Los Angeles Angels

One of Kershaw’s Teammates on the Mound is Making Noise for NL ROY

3. (Tie) Spencer Strider +750 (Last week: +210)

One of the most dominant strikeout pitchers in the game is Atlanta Braves youngster Spencer Strider. The Braves flame thrower has been having a rough go on the mound of late, though, highlighted by back-to-back outings where he’s allowed five earned runs or more. Strider has the ability to bounce back, but his recent poor showings have seen his odds really drop off, going from +210 to +750.

Last Start: June 14 @ Detroit Tigers (5IP, 7H, 5ER, 6SO)

Next Start: June 20 @ Philadelphia Phillies

3. (Tie) Zack Wheeler +750 (Last week: Unranked in Top Five)

The Philadelphia Phillies are known for having a high-end top of the rotation led by right-hander Zack Wheeler. His elite fastball and breaking ball combination puts him in a category amongst the game’s best starting pitchers. Wheeler has compiled a 5-4 record, along with a 3.73 ERA and 94 strikeouts. With another quality start against Arizona, Wheeler’s odds of winning the NL Cy Young climbed into the top five, where he now sits at +750.

Last Start: June 13 @ Arizona Diamondbacks (6IP, 4H, 1ER, 7SO)

Next Start: June 18 @ Oakland Athletics

5. Logan Webb +950 (Last week: +1800)

If you’re looking for one of the more consistent starters in the National League over the last two seasons, Logan Webb is your guy. The San Francisco Giants right-hander has brought electricity to the top of the club’s rotation, posting a 5-6 record, paired with a 3.15 ERA and 91 strikeouts. With some odds shuffling at the top of the leaderboard, Webb has seen his nearly cut in half, going from +1800 to +950.

Last Start: June 12 @ St. Louis Cardinals (7IP, 7H, 3ER, 6SO)

Next Start: June 18 @ Los Angeles Dodgers
