The National League is loaded with young talent in 2023, and many candidates warrant consideration to win Rookie of the Year.
Below, we’ll check in on five candidates with the best odds.
Check out SportsGrid’s daily MLB game picks.
1. Corbin Carroll -320 (Last week: -135)
Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks is the odds-on favorite for the NL ROY. Entering the year, he was listed as one of the top prospects in MLB, and he’s performed admirably during his rookie campaign.
Over the last two weeks, Carroll has not only gone from a favorite but to a relatively big one. Just two weeks ago, he was listed at +135, and it’s safe to say his production since then, and the lack of heavy competition has helped him stay at the top odds of the board, where he’s once again risen from -135 to -320

2. Elly De La Cruz +750 (Last week: +1200)
One of the most hyped prospects in baseball is Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz. The Reds called up their star prospect to make his MLB debut on Tuesday last week, and he’s made quite the impact for the big club since then.
Even with De La Cruz owning lofty expectations heading into his rookie year, it’s hard to argue that he hasn’t delivered early in his big league career. De La Cruz has posted a .856 OPS and five stolen bases through his first eight games. With another good stretch from the youngster, De La Cruz has seen his odds to win NL ROY bet down from +1200 to +750.

3. Bobby Miller +2700 (Last week: Unranked in Top Five)
If you’re looking for a franchise widely known as a competitive machine with a strong prospects system, the Los Angeles Dodgers are your team. Bobby Miller has emerged as a top pitching prospect in the National League and made an immediate impact.
Although Miller has only made four starts for the Dodgers in 2023, he’s been sensational when he’s taken the hill, owning a 3-0 record, along with a sparkling 0.78 ERA and 23 strikeouts. Those numbers might not be sustainable, but Miller has skyrocketed into the top five, where he now owns the third-shortest odds at +2700.

4. (Tie) Francisco Alvarez +3500 (Last week: +1000)
It’s no secret that the New York Mets have some talented young prospects, and some are already proving to be big-league-ready. Francisco Alvarez has long been listed as one of the top prospects in the game, and he’s bringing some critical elements to New York in his rookie campaign.
The Mets catcher went through a tough stretch over the last month, but he’s found his stroke again as the middle of June approaches. Alvarez has hit three home runs over his previous three games and boasts a .818 OPS. Still, Alvarez has seen his NL ROY odds continue to plummet, this time from +1000 to +3500.
4. (Tie) Kodai Senga +3500 (Last week: Unranked in Top Five)
There was a time entering the year that New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga was projected to be a solid option to win the NL Rookie of the Year. To this point, it’s been an up-and-down rookie campaign for the 30-year-old.
To Senga’s credit, though, he’s started to pitch well for the club of late, which has his name back in the conversation, even as a long shot. Senga has a 6-3 record with a 3.34 ERA and 79 strikeouts. If those numbers improve or hold, Senga should see his +3500 odds continue to rise throughout the campaign.
