Aaron Judge blasted his 275th career home run, and Juan Soto delivered a game-breaking bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning as the New York Yankees triumphed over the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 on Thursday night.
Judge’s two-run homer off Patrick Sandoval (2-8) in the fourth inning placed him in elite company, joining Lou Gehrig as the only Yankees to record at least 12 home runs and 12 doubles in a single calendar month. Gehrig achieved this milestone in July 1930. Judge’s homer was also his 18th of the season, tying him with Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson and Houston’s Kyle Tucker for the MLB lead.
“Aaron is a special player doing special things,” manager Aaron Boone commented. “We needed a jolt, and Judge’s homer provided that spark."
Despite the victory, the Yankees saw the end of a couple of impressive streaks. Anthony Volpe went 0 for 4, halting his hitting streak at 21 games.

Carlos Rodón (7-2) pitched six-plus innings, allowing three runs and ending the Yankees’ starting staff’s MLB-record streak of 16 games with at least five innings pitched and two or fewer runs allowed.
Looking ahead, the Yankees will open a series in San Francisco on Friday with right-hander Marcus Stroman (4-2, 2.76 ERA) on the mound. The Angels will embark on a brief three-game road trip to Seattle, where right-hander José Soriano (2-5, 3.61 ERA) is set to start on Friday.
The Yankees’ performance was highlighted by Judge’s historical homer and Soto’s crucial triple, underscoring the depth and power of their lineup. As the season progresses, the Yankees continue to demonstrate their resilience and ability to deliver in high-pressure situations, setting the stage for an exciting summer of baseball.
