Carlos Correa showcased his all-around talent on Wednesday, hitting a solo home run and making a crucial diving stop to preserve the lead, as the Minnesota Twins edged out the Washington Nationals 3-2.
Max Kepler also contributed significantly with a solo shot, a double, and scoring the game-winning run, helping the Twins snap a seven-game losing streak and secure the series victory.
Minnesota starter Simeon Woods-Richardson pitched effectively, allowing just three hits and a walk over 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Reliever Steven Okert (1-0) earned his first win with the Twins, retiring four straight batters after an entertaining ride on the Nationals’ bullpen cart, where he playfully tipped his cap to the driver.
For Washington, Joey Meneses provided a highlight with a solo home run, but the team has now dropped seven of their last eight games.

Nationals’ starter Jake Irvin (2-5), making his first career start against the Twins—the team that originally drafted him out of high school—pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six. However, he was twice bested on first-pitch swings. In the second inning, Kepler launched Irvin’s fastball deep to right-center for a home run. Later, with two outs in the sixth, Correa turned on Irvin’s curveball, sending it several rows deep into the left-field seats.
Looking ahead, the Twins will have RHP Bailey Ober on the mound Friday to start a three-game series against the Texas Rangers and a seven-game home stand.
Meanwhile, the Nationals will begin a three-game set against the visiting Seattle Mariners on Friday. As of now, Nationals manager Dave Martinez has not announced the starting pitchers for the series and did not speak to the media on Wednesday morning.
This victory marks a positive turn for the Twins, who hope to build momentum as they continue their homestand.
