We have a potential World Series preview underway this week as the Baltimore Orioles are on the road to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. After the Orioles unexpectedly took the series opener, they’ll have their ace on the mound in Corbin Burnes against a struggling Walker Buehler. Tonight will be a fun battle, so we created an ultimate same-game parlay for the action.

Leg 1: Orioles ML
Corbin Burnes has had a very ugly August. He has a staggering 8.71 ERA in four outings, but he’s the type of elite arm that bounces back in the most important games. Despite the struggles, we’re treating him like the Cy Young caliber pitcher that he is and expecting him to pitch a dominant outing. Conversely, Walker Buehler has struggled mightily but doesn’t deserve our trust to bounce back. When was the last time that Buehler was even good? 2021? Regardless, despite the might of the Dodgers’ offense, Burnes can mitigate them enough to allow the Orioles’ bats time to destroy Buehler, prompting us to back the Orioles’ ML at roughly even-money to kick off our parlay.
Leg 2: Corbin Burnes 5+ Strikeouts
To keep this simple, if we get a strong outing from Corbin Burnes, he must be in the game long enough to rack up five strikeouts. Anything less would mean he’s out of the game earlier than expected, and the rest of the parlay is toast anyway.
Leg 3: Gunnar Henderson 2+ Total Bases
Gunnar Henderson hasn’t been the extra-base machine he once was earlier this season as of late, but we’re looking to fade Buehler any chance we get tonight. It happens that opposing left-handed batters sport a .372 batting average against him this season. 372! Gunnar is talented enough at the plate to make a struggling pitcher pay, so we hope he can get us either two hits or an easy double in the gap to make things simple. We wouldn’t mind a homer to help our Orioles ML tout, either.
Leg 4: Ryan O’Hearn 1+ Hit
Ryan O’Hearn only plays against right-handed pitching, so we’ll capitalize on Buehler’s struggles against left-handed hitters as much as we can by expecting O’Hearn to get a hit. With a .372 opposing batting average, what else is there to ask for?
Leg 5: Mookie Betts 2+ Total Bases
Since returning from the IL, Mookie Betts has recorded a hit in ten of 12 games, and of those ten games where he had a hit, he’s recorded at least two total bases in nine of them. The Dodgers won’t go down quietly tonight, so we hope that Betts can get us a meaningless double at some point.
