Leg 1: Orioles ML
The Orioles are 3-0 in the three games Zach Eflin has started for them thus far, whereas the Red Sox have gone just 2-3 across Nick Pivetta’s last five starts. The Red Sox have been a much better team on the road than at home, but we’ll still favor the Orioles in Camden Yards with the better pitcher on the mound backing the better offense.
Leg 2: Zach Eflin 5+ Strikeouts
Across the past week, the Red Sox have struck out at a 29.7% clip collectively, good for the second-highest mark in baseball. Zach Eflin has struck out at least five batters across seven of his last ten starts. We trust he can maximize his matchup against a team prone to striking out right now.
Leg 3: Gunnar Henderson 2+ Total Bases
After a rough patch, Gunnar Henderson has recorded at least two total bases in three of his last four games, and he’ll have an optimal matchup against Pivetta, the right-handed pitcher. Henderson hasn’t faced Pivetta yet in his career, but we’ll undoubtedly favor him between the two.
Leg 4: Anthony Santander 1+ Hit
Anthony Santander is hitting just .188 in August, but he sports a .333 career batting average against Pivetta across 12 at-bats. Santander is due, so we hope his matchup against Pivetta allows him to poke a hit or launch a home run.
Leg 5: Rafael Devers 2+ Total Bases
On the side of the Red Sox, we can’t go wrong by backing Rafael Devers, who is 6-13 in his career against Eflin. Across the past 16 games where Devers has recorded a hit, he’s recorded at least two total bases in 13 games, so we’ll hope he can get us a meaningless two total bases tonight.
