MLB SGP: +1350 New York Yankees @ Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies got embarrassed at home by the New York Yankees last night as the Bronx Bomber bats had an offensive explosion off of Zack Wheeler. Still, another fun matchup awaits tonight as Gerrit Cole and Aaron Nola will face off, prompting us to work up an ultimate same-game parlay. Do the Phils have enough fight in them to bounce back tonight?

Leg 1: Phillies ML
Last night couldn’t have gone worse for the Phillies, so part of me firmly believes they will put together some resilient bounce-back effort as they’ve continually done with this core group of players the past few seasons. They’ll be up against Gerrit Cole, unreliable since returning from the Injured List. Aaron Nola, too, has been no sure thing, but the Phillies need this win tonight to get their mojo back. Another ugly loss is unacceptable. We may be putting too much faith in the Phillies to bounce back here, but they still own the best record in baseball for a reason, so we’ll trust that they can live up to that.
Leg 2: Aaron Nola 6+ Strikeouts
Aaron Nola has struck out at least six batters in six of his last seven starts, and the Yankees struck out nine times last night despite having significantly reduced their strikeout numbers in recent weeks. Even though Zack Wheeler was a train wreck last night, he still struck out six across five innings, so we’ll trust that Nola can give us the same effort – minus the home runs.
Leg 3: Bryce Harper 2+ Total Bases
Bryce Harper has had a pretty brutal July for the most part, but he always shows up in a big way after he gets criticized heavily or the team gets punched in the mouth, as they did last night. Few are better at channeling that energy into making opposing pitchers pay at the plate, giving us the confidence that he can slap an extra-base hit to get the crowd into the game.
Leg 4: JT Realmuto 1+ Hit
To keep this simple, despite JT Realmuto’s recent struggles, he has gone 11-20 in his career against Gerrit Cole. You can’t ask for better production than that!
Leg 5: Juan Soto 2+ Total Bases
Turning to the Yankees’ side of this same-game parlay, we’ll tout Juan Soto here to get us at least two total bases, as he’s done in seven of ten games since returning from the All-Star break. July has been good to Soto at the plate for plenty of extra-base hits, so we’ll trust him to get us something tonight that ideally won’t cause too much damage to protect our Phillies ML tout.
