Leg 1: Braves ML
Chris Sale has been one of the NL’s most reliable pitchers this season, so simply put, we can be comfortable backing the Braves any time he is set to take the mound. The Braves offense hasn’t been as reliable as we would like, but they’ll go up against Jordan Hicks, who has cooled off after a strong start to the season, collecting a 5.53 ERA over his last six starts. We’ll back the home team with a better pitcher and better offense.
Leg 2: Chris Sale 7+ Strikeouts
Chris Sale has struck out at least seven batters in 12 of his last 15 starts, and last night, Reynaldo Lopez struck out six batters in just 4.1 innings of work. I expect him to go at least six innings tonight, giving him every opportunity to rack up seven strikeouts.
Leg 3: Jarred Kelenic 1+ Hit
Jarred Kelenic has recorded a hit in 15 of his last 18 games, and he’ll have an optimal matchup against the righty Hicks. He’s performed well enough as the Braves’ leadoff hitter to earn our trust tonight.
Leg 4: Austin Riley 1+ Hit
Austin Riley has had a hit in 13 of his last 17 games and has performed much better this season against right-handed pitching. He’s 2-5 in his career against Hicks, and while that’s nothing to be too excited about, Riley should be fully capable of knocking in a hit in his four at-bats tonight.
Leg 5: Heliot Ramos 1+ Hit
Heliot Ramos has been a .310 hitter since the start of June, and overall this season, he’s sporting a .426 batting average against left-handed pitching. While Chris Sale is no ordinary lefty, we won’t expect him to be flawless.
Leg 6: Matt Chapman 1+ Hit
We’ll close out our SGP by touting Matt Chapman to record a hit, as he’s been a .333 hitter against lefties compared to just a .204 against righties. Again, we’ll expect Sale to give up a couple of hits and trust that Chapman will get one of them.
