ACC Tournament Best Bet: Clemson (+1000)
Clemson's draw is just gorgeous. The Tigers should be able to handle either Boston College or Miami in the second round and then get to face Virginia in the quarterfinals. While the Cavaliers downed the Tigers at home last month, they will be clear favorites in both games leading to a probable date with Duke. Clemson was a foul with one second remaining away from a win at Cameron Indoor. The Tigers have the ceiling to cut down the nets on Saturday night, and we're going to put our money where our mouth is on their enticing odds.
ACC League Overview
It's largely been a two-horse race in the ACC this season as blue-bloods Duke and North Carolina have gone neck-and-neck for months now. The Tar Heels pulled away with the outright league title after downing the Blue Devils in Cameron Indoor last weekend and will be the favorite and top seed in D.C. this week. There are a few capable contenders in this field as well, with Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, and yes, even Virginia as teams that could make a deep run. We break down the field here through the favorite, the challenger, a dark horse, and our best bet.
ACC Tournament Favorite: North Carolina (+160)
Outside of a few slip-ups in the middle of conference play, it feels like the Tar Heels have steadily improved throughout the season. Newcomers Harrison Ingram, Elliot Cadeau, and Cormac Ryan seem to have gotten more comfortable in the system over time. Ryan saved his best game of the season for their biggest spot thus far, a 31-point outburst in their road win over Duke on Saturday. RJ Davis is the heartbeat of the team, a heavily improved version of himself from a season ago who can create his own bucket while also getting his teammates involved at will. With Armando Bacot manning the paint, this UNC team is as well-rounded as it gets in the country.
ACC Tournament Challenger: Duke (+180)
Duke's got studs of their own, but Saturday's home loss to their biggest rival was not a convincing showing for their ACC Tournament chances. Surprisingly, the Blue Devils have not beaten anyone of serious note in the past few months. Their best win since beating Baylor before Christmas is a home win over Clemson after blowing both chances against North Carolina and the infamous courtstorm defeat at Wake Forest. There seems to be some lack of consistency from the role players and bench on this team. That could really rear its head if Duke is asked to play three games in three days.
ACC Tournament Dark Horse: Clemson (+1000)
Clemson has proven that they can beat anyone while playing at their ceiling. Their wins over Alabama, Boise State, South Carolina, TCU, and North Carolina are stellar examples of that. The Tigers have been competitive in defeat as well, which has helped keep their predictive metrics strong. They've only lost by more than ten points twice all season during a rough stretch in January. PJ Hall is one of the top players in the league and this is a group with both veteran leadership and loads of experience.
