5. Aly Khalifa, BYU
Aly Khalifa may not be a name many people know of, but his fit with Kentucky makes perfect sense after his former head coach took the gig in Lexington. Khalifa is an underrated passer and shot blocker who could fit perfectly into a frontcourt depth role with the Wildcats. And with the reports that the Egyptian center has already limited the list of potential teams down to Kentucky, Louisville, and a return to BYU, it seems clear that a spot with the UK makes the most sense.
1. BJ Freeman, Milwaukee
BJ Freeman is a player not only Kentucky should want but every team in the nation. In two seasons at Milwaukee, the six-foot-six guard has proven to be an explosive scorer. With his size and ability to create for himself and others, Freeman has the potential to be a top player in the nation next year. And with Kentucky losing backcourt depth to the portal and in their recruiting class since John Calipari’s departure, the North Carolina native would be a perfect start to Mark Pope’s tenure.
2. Mark Mitchell, Duke
Mark Mitchell committed to Duke as a highly touted prospect in his recruiting class. The versatile forward has shown flashes of being the talent he was recruited for, but in two seasons, Mitchell has struggled to develop consistency. With a fresh start at another top program like Kentucky, Mitchell could finally develop into the two-way player he has the potential to be.
3. Amari Williams, Drexel
Amari Williams has already scheduled a visit to Kentucky to meet with new head coach Mark Pope and tour the program next week. The forward has spent four seasons at Drexel, where he’s consistently shown he can be a two-way threat and a defensive monster. With great length and experience, he could slot in well at Kentucky with a chance to prove he can compete with top competition.
4. Robbie Avila, Indiana State
Robbie Avila entered the portal after becoming one of the fan-favorite players in the nation. Avila quickly became a national treasure with his play and earned himself many nicknames along the way. Averaging 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists on the season, the big man proved he has the talent to play against the top talent in college basketball. Considering Mark Pope’s offensive system, Avila could thrive if he committed to Kentucky. At nearly seven feet tall, Avila can be a playmaker, which would bode perfectly for a Pope-style offense that runs through the center.
