1. Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs got exceptional quarterback play from Carson Beck in 2023, and he's returning for some unfinished business to help lead Kirby Smart's team. Beck threw for nearly 4,000 yards last year, paired with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. The Florida native has a chance to be great again in 2024, which could see him as the top quarterback off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft. Beck enters spring football in a tie for the shortest Heisman odds at +750.
16. Auburn Tigers
Sorry Auburn fans. Payton Thorne hasn't done it for us, and it's hard to see him flipping the narrative at this point in his career. Sure, the experience is nice, but we're not expecting much in a daunting SEC.
15. Arkansas Razorbacks
There are some noteworthy traits about former Boise State duel-threat quarterback Taylen Green that should inspire at least some hope. At the end of the day, there are simply better rooms on this list.
14. Kentucky Wildcats
After transferring from Georgia, the starting job is Brock Vandagriff's to lose. There is a lot of potential with the former five-Star recruit, but there will likely be some growing pains, too.
13. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Baylor transfer Blake Shapen should fit in nicely with what many expect to be an improved offense under new head coach Jeff Lebby. Can the Bulldogs finally get back to relevancy?
12. South Carolina Gamecocks
Lanorris Sellers has the profile needed to make a name for himself in the SEC. Time will tell if he's able to do with the Gamecocks, but there is at least some traction that they've found the guy needed to compete.
11. Vanderbilt Commodores
Former New Mexico State quarterback Diego Pavia is set to take over with the Commodores. There's real potential, but can the rest of the roster compete in the SEC?
10. Oklahoma Sooners
It's not hard to be bullish about Jackson Arnold with Oklahoma. The issue isn't with Arnold and the QB room, more so with the rest of the roster being a question mark. Arnold has the potential to be a strong SEC quarterback.
9. Florida Gators
Kicking off the back half of the SEC quarterback rooms is Florida. Led by Graham Mertz, m Gator fans are excited about where he can lead this team in 2024. We don't blame them.
8. Texas A&M Aggies
We've been waiting almost an eternity for the Texas A&M Aggies to become a respectable program again. With Conner Weigman set to take the field as the starting signal-caller, the Aggies may find their groove again. Mike Elko and Weigman can change this program's trajectory, starting with the quarterback position. Weigman boasts +2000 odds to win the Heisman trophy.
7. Missouri Tigers
After an impressive season that helped put the Missouri Tigers back on the map, quarterback Brady Cook is set to run it back in 2024. Cook had a strong campaign for the Tigers in 2023, throwing for 3,317 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Cook added 319 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns. The Tigers are right in the mix heading into 2024, and Cook will play a significant role in whether they continue to find success. Cook holds +3000 odds to win the Heisman trophy.
6. Tennessee Volunteers
Here's where things get more interesting. Don't be surprised if the Tennessee Volunteers offense hits another level in 2024. A big reason for that is we're expecting Nico Iamaleava to have a strong year as their starting quarterback. We saw a glimpse of what he was capable of during bowl action, and I believe the sky is the limit for this player. Iamaleava has Heisman potential despite his odds not being listed on the board. The Volunteers are back in the mix, and Iamaleava is a major reason.
5. Ole Miss Rebels
The Ole Miss Rebels have a lot to look forward to in 2024, starting with a strong quarterback room. Jaxson Dart is set to return as the starting signal-caller and boasts +1800 odds to win the Heisman, the sixth-shortest. Dart had a tremendous 2023 campaign, tallying 3,364 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 391 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Dart and the Rebels offense take their game to another level in 2024.
4. LSU Tigers
The quarterback I'm most excited to see in the SEC this season is Garrett Nussmeier. Pairing Nussmeier with Brian Kelly should help unlock the potential for greatness in his game. Garrett Nussmeier has big shoes to fill after Jayden Daniels won the Heisman last year, but he has the pedigree to get the job done and help transition this program back into a real national title contender. Nussmeier holds the sixth-shortest Heisman trophy odds at +1800.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
I'm intrigued to see how Jalen Milroe responds without Nick Saban in the mix at Alabama. Milroe is oozing talent, which was on full display in the back half of the 2023 campaign. Milroe helped lead the Crimson Tide to a College Football Playoff appearance, and there's a strong possibility he will do so again in 2024 under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. Milroe is a strong dual-threat quarterback with the fifth-shortest Heisman odds at +1200.
2. Texas Longhorns
Whether you want to list the Texas Longhorns in first or second, I won't have a problem with it. Quinn Ewers was solid last year, but I believe he has more to give. With Arch Manning breathing down his neck in Texas, the Longhorns are set at the quarterback position for the foreseeable future. In their first season in the SEC, Ewers will be tasked with taking his game to the next level, and I believe he's up to the task. Ewers sits in a tie for the shortest odds of winning the Heisman trophy at +750.
