Packers vs Lions TNF Week 14 Predictions | NFL Picks Today, Best Bets

Grant White

Host · Writer

The Green Bay Packers are in one hell of a dogfight. Despite owning a sterling 9-3 record, the Packers sit third in the NFC North, needing to make up ground on the Minnesota Vikings and division-leading Detroit Lions. They’ll have that opportunity in Week 14, as the Packers travel to the Motor City for an NFC North showdown against the Lions. Detroit has hit a bit of a wall with its recent performances. They narrowly escaped last week’s showdown against the Chicago Bears and have seen a noticeable decline in their scoring over the past few weeks. That leaves the door open for a Packers upset in this pivotal intra-divisional battle.

  • Spread: Lions -3.5 | Moneyline: Lions -168 | Total: 51.5

Packers vs Lions TNF Best Bet ATS: Packers +3.5

After an unbecoming 0-4 streak against the spread, the Packers have turned a corner with their recent efforts. Green Bay has covered the spread in two straight, demonstrating improved efficiency on both sides of the ball. In those outings, they’ve reached the 30-point threshold on both occasions while limiting their opponents to a combined 27 points. While the Packers’ offensive efficiency is through the roof, it’s also worth taking note of their defensive accomplishments. The San Francisco 49ers were limited to 241 yards of total offense back in Week 12, with 272 of the Miami Dolphins’ 375 yards coming in the second half of last week’s defeat once the game was already out of reach. That defensive integrity is crucial for the Packers to keep the Lions’ potent offense off the field. But as we’ve seen, they’ve been up to the task of late. We’re betting the Packers’ elite defensive play continues, helping them stay within +3.5 on Thursday Night Football.

Packers vs Lions TNF Best Bet Total: Under 51.5

Much of the laudation has been heaped on Detroit’s offense, but take note of the Lions’ defensive accomplishments. The NFC North leaders have held their past four opponents to an average of 247.8 yards per game, with none of those foes eclipsing 301 yards. As expected, that correlates with an improved scoring defense. Those opponents have combined for just 55 points or 13.8 points per game. Moreover, only one of those games has gone over the total. Green Bay is on an identical path, staying below the total in three of its past four. We’re betting those trends persist, with this contest staying beneath the total.

Packers vs Lions TNF Best Player Props

Jordan Love Over 247.5 Passing Yards

The betting market may be underestimating Jordan Love’s outlook on Thursday night. The Packers quarterback enters the contest with a meaty 247.5 passing yards prop; however, a few indicators support that he should be able to eclipse that benchmark. First, the Lions’ pass defense ranks as one of the worst in the NFL. They’re giving up 226.8 passing yards per game this season, jumping to 240.6 at Ford Field. Second, the Packers’ aerial assault is one of the best in the league. They average the eighth-most yards in the NFL, with Love throwing for an average of 233.9 per game. Additionally, he’s coming off a 274-yard effort last week against the Dolphins. Finally, in terms of game script, Green Bay could demand more out of its passing game than it usually does. The Packers could be forced to turn to the passing attack more frequently as they try to keep pace with the Lions’ prolific offense. Consequently, we’re taking a position on the over, expecting Love to surpass 247.5 passing yards on Thursday Night Football.
