MLB AL Odds Power Rankings: Rays Rising, Yankees Falling

Zachary Cook

The Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays are still listed as the class of the American League with their odds to win the Pennant.
Below are the top ten favorites to win the American League from the FanDuel Sportsbook.
1. Houston Astros +300 (Last week: +300)
It’s May 9, and if you thought the Houston Astros would be under .500, you’d probably be lying. The defending World Series champs are dealing with some critical injuries in their rotation, yet they still have maintained their +300 odds as favorites to win the American League.
2. Tampa Bay Rays +330 (Last week: +350)
The one constant of the 2023 MLB season has been the Tampa Bay Rays winning baseball games. The Rays are 8-2 over their last ten games and have once again seen their American League odds bet down from +350 to +330.
3. Toronto Blue Jays +600 (Last week: 600)
After struggling against the Boston Red Sox last week, the Toronto Blue Jays swept the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend to get back on track. Toronto continues to boast +600 odds of winning the American League and holds a strong 21-14 record.
4. New York Yankees +650 (Last week: +550)
The New York Yankees have been a team to watch this season, but not for the right reasons. The Bronx Bombers are struggling to put together long stretches of good play, leading to their American League odds dropping from +550 to +650 over the last week.
5. Minnesota Twins +850 (Last week: +850)
There are still some overall concerns and inconsistencies surrounding the Minnesota Twins, but they also sit in the top spot in the AL Central. With that, the Twins have held onto their +850 odds to win the Pennant.
6. (Tie) Los Angeles Angels +1400 (Last week: +1400)
There’s much to like about how the Los Angeles Angels started the 2023 campaign. They boast a strong 20-16 record while also in a tie with the sixth-shortest odds to win the American League at +1400.
6. (Tie) Texas Rangers +1400 (Last week: +2000)
A team to watch in the American League continues to be the Texas Rangers. They made some nice upgrades to their team in the offseason, and those moves have paid off, leading to a 21-13 record. The Rangers have seen their odds to win the Pennant continue getting bet down from +2000 to +1400.
8. Seattle Mariners +1600 (Last week: +1400)
It hasn’t been a perfect start to May for the Seattle Mariners, but they’re at least on the right track to figuring things out and finding consistency. Still, the M’s have seen their American League odds drop from +1400 to +1600 over the last week.
9. Cleveland Guardians +2500 (Last week: +1800)
It certainly hasn’t been the start to the season that the Cleveland Guardians were looking to have after making a surprise run to the playoffs last year. The Guardians are 4-6 over their last ten games and have seen their AL odds plummet from +1800 to +2500.
10. Baltimore Orioles +3000 (Last week: +3000)
We’re coming to the point now where we can no longer be surprised by this Baltimore Orioles team. They continue to occupy the top wild-card spot in the American League with a 22-13 record while boasting +3000 odds to win the Pennant.
