Baltimore Orioles
Like with the Brewers, relying on Fedde as their primary rotation addition would be a risk for the Orioles. While Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez form a strong one-two punch, Dean Kremer is recovering from a right triceps strain, and both Kyle Bradish and John Means are out for the season after Tommy John surgery.
This team clearly needs another front-line pitcher capable of starting one of the first three games in a playoff series, which Fedde may not be. Fortunately for the O's, general manager Mike Elias has built such a strong farm system that Baltimore could trade for a frontline starter and still acquire Fedde.
Fedde would help the Orioles compete for the AL East title and could potentially be a Game 4 starter if they advance to the ALCS. While no one suggests Fedde would replace Burnes, the former NL Cy Young Award winner can become a free agent after the season. Knowing Fedde would be with the team in 2025 enhances his appeal to the Orioles.

Erick Fedde Trade Fits
Erick Fedde was a first-round pick by the Washington Nationals in the 2014 MLB Draft. Over six seasons with the team, Fedde's performance was lackluster, posting a 21-33 record with a 5.41 ERA and 5.17 FIP.
However, Fedde revitalized his career in South Korea. In a single season with the KBO’s NC Dinos, he went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, earning the league’s MVP honors.
Fedde used his outstanding season in the KBO as a springboard to return to MLB, signing a two-year, $15 million deal with the Chicago White Sox. This deal has quickly become one of the most team-friendly in the sport. In 16 starts for the White Sox, Fedde has posted his best MLB results, going 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA and 3.53 FIP over 94.1 innings pitched. Though he is under contract for 2025, the White Sox could consider trading the 31-year-old to maximize their return.
With that in mind, here are five teams that could potentially be suitors for Fedde before the July 30 trade deadline.
Houston Astros
If Astros general manager Dana Brown is looking to make additions before the trade deadline but is unsure about the team’s postseason chances this year, Erick Fedde would be a solid compromise.
Adding Fedde would bolster an Astros rotation weakened by injuries, helping Joe Espada’s team compete with the Mariners and Rangers for the AL West title.
Even if the Astros miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016, Fedde will still be under contract next season. With José Urquidy and Cristian Javier recently undergoing Tommy John surgery and unlikely to start the 2025 season, and Justin Verlander's contractual status uncertain, Fedde would provide the Astros with much-needed stability for 2025 as well as 2024.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers have a strong bullpen and a lineup ready to win now, but beyond Freddy Peralta, their proven pitching depth is lacking. This might necessitate general manager Matt Arnold to acquire multiple starting pitchers before the trade deadline to maintain their NL Central lead.
If the Brewers aim to make a significant postseason impact, Fedde likely can't be their primary starting pitching addition. However, if he is their second most notable starter acquisition, it would still make for an impressive deadline.
Additionally, Fedde would be under contract for 2025, when the Brewers will also have Brandon Woodruff back at the top of their rotation alongside Peralta.
New York Yankees
The Yankees recently welcomed reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole back from the injured list, making it seem like their rotation is set, especially with Clarke Schmidt possibly returning after the All-Star Break.
However, while the Yankees might end up with more than five qualified starting pitchers, their rotation isn't full of arms guaranteed to make 33 starts. Cole is just returning from an elbow injury, Marcus Stroman hasn’t made more than 27 starts since 2021, Carlos Rodón has a lengthy injury history, Nestor Cortes made just 12 starts last year, and Luis Gil’s innings will need to be managed.
Adding Fedde would provide the Yankees with crucial back-of-the-rotation depth as they try to fend off the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East race. If the Yankees have a surplus of starting pitchers in the offseason, Brian Cashman could flip Fedde for other assets.

Atlanta Braves
The Braves lost Spencer Strider for the season when he underwent an internal brace procedure in April. While the trio of Max Fried, Chris Sale, and Reynaldo López has been formidable, there are concerns about their durability.
This is the first year Sale has been healthy in half a decade, and López has already pitched more innings this year than in any season since 2019. Additionally, Fried only made 14 starts last year.
Alex Anthopoulos needs to strengthen the outfield, but it would be wise to bolster the rotation with the understanding that each of the current starters carries some injury risk. Fedde’s contract extending through 2025 makes him an attractive option for the Braves, especially with Fried and Charlie Morton’s futures beyond this season uncertain.
