Leg 1: Trea Turner 2+ Total Bases
As the Phillies are extremely short-handed, with guys like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and JT Realmuto all sitting on the Injured List, Trea Turner has taken it upon himself to come alive at the plate. He’s recorded at least two total bases in six of his last eight games, and he now gets to face Max Fried tonight, who he is batting .355 against in his career.
Leg 2: Nick Castellanos 1+ Hit
Nick Castellanos has stepped up big time amid the Phillies’ injuries, as he’s recorded at least a single hit in 14 of his last 16 games. He’s also 4-8 in his career against Fried, so all things being considered, we’ll trust that Casty can find a way to get us a hit.
Leg 3: Edmundo Sosa 1+ Hit
To keep this simple, we’ll be riding with Edmundo Sosa because he is batting .318 against left-handed pitching this season. While we know Fried is no ordinary lefty, sometimes you need a little faith!
Leg 4: Austin Riley 2+ Total Bases
Austin Riley kicked off July strong, having four extra-base hits in three games after a solid June where he batted .289. He’ll go up against Aaron Nola tonight, against whom he has a .389 batting average in his career. We’ll rely on Riley’s recent momentum and past success against Nola for at least two total bases.
Leg 5: Marcell Ozuna 1+ Hit
Marcell Ozuna owns a .296 batting average on the season, and sometimes, you have to trust that one of the best players will be able to get a hit in his home ballpark. Ozuna sports a .316 batting average in Truist Park this season, so that’s good enough for us!
