Leg 1: Phillies ML
It hasn’t been anything close to pretty for the Phillies of late. Since returning from the All-Star break, only the Chicago White Sox have a worse record, but we’re not too worried about the Phils’ recent struggles tonight. On Sunday, they snapped a six-game skid with a dominant 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners, where the bats completely woke up. Last month, the Phillies swept the Dodgers in Philly, and Aaron Nola had a dominant six-inning outing where he allowed just one run. Tyler Glasnow hasn’t been as dominant lately, and the Dodgers are shorthanded at the plate, so we’re counting on the Phillies to continue their momentum into LA.
Leg 2: Aaron Nola 6+ Strikeouts
Aaron Nola pitched a six-inning effort against the Dodgers, allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts. Over the past two weeks, the Dodgers have struck out at the highest clip in baseball, at 29.8%, so knowing their recent struggles and what Nola already did to them, we like him to get us at least six strikeouts tonight.
Leg 3: Bryce Harper 1+ Hit
Bryce Harper shouldered the Phillies’ resurgence last night with a three-hit showing, including a towering home run. After a July to-forget, Harper knows he and the Phillies have to pick up the pace, especially this series against the Dodgers, to maintain their NL lead, so we trust him to get at least a hit in some capacity.
Leg 4: Trea Turner 1+ Hit
Like the rest of the Phillies, Trea Turner has struggled late. He just went 2-12 at the plate in Seattle, so he needs to wake up just as much as everyone else. We already saw him go 7-12 against the Dodgers last night, and as a former Dodger, we like Turner to get us a hit tonight and find his way back into a rhythm in his old home ballpark.
Leg 5: Tyler Glasnow 7+ Strikeouts
While we may be looking to fade Tyler Glasnow and the rest of the Dodgers tonight, it doesn’t mean that Glasnow can still rack up a bunch of strikeouts in a losing effort. In eight starts since the start of June, the Dodgers have gone just 4-4 when Glasnow takes the mound, but he’s struck out at least seven batters in six outings. The Phils’ bats have never fared well against “strikeout guys," so we expect Glasnow to rack up the Ks despite being down in the score column.
Leg 6: Gavin Lux 1+ Hit
In Aaron Nola’s dominant outing last month against the Dodgers, Gavin Lux accounted for two of the four hits that Nola surrendered, so we’ll go back to him tonight as he’s also currently riding a nine-game hitting streak.
