The Philadelphia Phillies will be pushed outside of their comfort zone as they embark on a six-game West Coast trip ahead of the All-Star break. The NL East leaders kick off their road trip with a three-game set versus an underappreciated San Francisco Giants squad. The betting market has the Phillies out in front, but we like the Giants’ chances of pulling off the upset on Monday night.

Leg 1: Giants +124
The Giants are fresh off a series win versus the Athletics, making it four wins over their last five games. Their bats have come to life across that sample, and we’re forecasting another solid offensive showing versus the Phillies.
Runs have been plentiful for San Francisco in recent games, and not just in the hitter-friendly confines of Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Over their previous seven games, the Giants have delivered 26 extra-base hits. Predictably, that increased productivity at the plate correlates with a deluge of scoring. San Francisco is up to 32 runs across the seven-game sample or 5.2 runs per game.
At the same time, the Phillies’ offensive production has taken a bit of a hit. They have mustered just 17 extra-base hits across the same time frame, which has resulted in a slightly decreased 4.5 runs per game. It’s unlikely that they see a massive swing in fortune in the series opener at Oracle Park.
Offensively, the Giants are riding a promising wave of momentum. We expect that to be the difference in tonight’s showdown versus the Phillies, with San Francisco escaping with a hard-fought win.

Leg 2: Matt Chapman to Record 2+ Hits +210
After missing close to a month, Matt Chapman made his return to the Giants’ lineup this weekend. Early returns are modest, but we expect the third baseman to make his presence felt versus the Phillies.
Most of Chapman’s metrics put him on the elite end of the spectrum. He ranks in the 88th percentile or better in hard-hit rate, average exit velocity, and bat speed, translating to a .471 expected slugging percentage. Still, Chapman sits 30 points below that mark, implying that he’s a natural progression candidate in the short term.
The right-handed batting Chapman has a natural advantage over southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Moreover, he was one of the hottest hitters in the majors before going down with a wrist injury. Chapman was slugging .586 through the first week in June before ending up on the IL.
Assuredly, Chapman will recapture his prior form. With two games under his belt to get his timing right, he’s poised for a strong showing on Monday night. There are several intriguing props, but we’re backing Chapman to record two or more hits.
Leg 3: Willy Adames to Record an RBI +210
The Giants’ recent offensive success is a result of a wholesome team effort. Included in that is Willy Adames, who has had his best week of the season to start July. That momentum carries him into tonight’s series opener.
Adames has been swinging out of his shoes lately. Since the start of the month, the Giants’ shortstop has a mind-numbing 1.356 OPS. Four of his 10 hits have gone for extra bases, contributing to a .818 slugging percentage. While that puts him on the unsustainable end of the spectrum, there is still room for growth for Adames.
As it stands, Adames is operating below expected levels. His .370 slugging percentage is 60 points short of his expected mark (.431). This is despite a mammoth 12.1% barrel rate and 45.2% hard-hit percentage.
All signs point toward sustained production at the plate for Adames. While he won’t be able to sustain his current OPS pace for an extended period, we’re betting it spills into the All-Star break. We’re getting a piece of Adames to record an RBI on Monday.
Phillies vs. Giants: Monday Night Same Game Parlay Picks
- Giants +124
- Matt Chapman to Record 2+ Hits +220
- Willy Adames to Record an RBI +210
The Giants can catch the Phillies sleeping in this one. Their offense has been thriving, and two of their best should get in on the action on Monday night. Parlaying Willy Adames to record an RBI with Matt Chapman to record two or more hits could net bettors a promising +1419.
