Purdue (-9.5) vs. Wisconsin
It's sad to see, but Wisconsin just looks so broken right now. It's now the second season running under Greg Gard where the Badgers have looked a shell of themselves in the back half of the season, and we're wondering if it's due to teams seeing them a second time that gives opponents the advantage. Regardless, there's no way to get in the way of this number in Mackey Arena. Purdue looked every part of the best team in the country in their impressive road victory over Illinois in Champaign on Tuesday night, and we are certain the Boilermakers will be up for it at home on senior day. It should be an emotional scene as the program sends off all-time great Zach Edey, and it should give Purdue the boost to really hammer this one home to cover a hefty spread.
Furman (+2.5) vs. Samford
We mentioned in our Southern Conference preview before the tournament got underway that the team with the best chance at stopping Samford was Furman. As noted in that analysis by college hoops expert Jordan Majewski, Furman head coach Bob Richey has dominated Samford's Bucky McMillan head-to-head for some time now. Richey, as well as a few returners, have the experience from last year's NCAA Tournament run to pull from in such a high-intensity atmosphere. The Paladins downed Samford in January and came just short of doing so again on the road three weeks ago. Back them to cover this short number and perhaps advance to the SoCon Finals.
Austin Peay (+4.5) vs. Stetson
To plug yet another conference tournament preview, our breakdown of the Atlantic Sun was pro-Austin Peay, who has found its way to the championship game on Sunday afternoon. We're sticking with our guns behind a backcourt that has simply taken the tournament by storm. It started with a ridiculous performance from DeMarcus Sharp in the overtime win over North Florida in the quarterfinals where he tallied 35 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. It was Dezi Jones's turn in the semis, where the Quinnipiac transfer poured in 34 points on 13-23 shooting from the field. This team has the star power to lead them to the upset, and we believe the Governors will be punching their ticket to the dance in this one.
Iowa (+1.5) vs. Illinois
With some losses by teams on the bubble such as Providence, Utah, and Villanova on Saturday, it's now opened the door for Iowa to play its way into the field on Sunday. A win over Illinois would do just that, and we're willing to back the hungrier dog in this fight. The Hawkeyes will know what's at stake in this one, and their top-ten offense has enough firepower to push them to the upset here on their home court. Carver-Hawkeye has become somewhat of a fortress over the past month for Iowa with a perfect 4-0 record at home in February.
UNC Asheville (-3.5) vs. Longwood (N)
In Drew Pember we trust. The 6'11" senior has a knack for coming up big in these all-important spots, averaging 28.6 points across his past five Big South Tournament games. The Bulldogs feel like an automatic bet whenever they take the court with one of the best players in mid-major hoops on their side. This team has largely stuck together after last year's trip to the NCAA Tournament with a squad that ranks top 20 in both Division I experience and minutes continuity, per KenPom. Those only become bigger factors as we get deeper into the postseason, and it should come into play in this nervy title game. Back UNC Asheville to cover and cut down the nets on Sunday.
