5. California Golden Bears
A wildcard in this recruitment could be the California Golden Bears. Cal is headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference. SportsGrid is not a site that specializes in geography, but I checked, and Berkley is still located on California's Pacific coast. Mark Madsen is considered an excellent young coach, and the former NBA player would be familiar with fellow former NBA player Peja Stojakovic. Cal does not have a strong history on a program, but Andrej Stojakovic could be a part of turning that around, and he could be a centerpiece of the attack.
1. UCLA Bruins
California native Andrej Stojakovic is the son of former NBA wing and European basketball legend Peja Stojakovic. The 6’7” wing player was a five-star recruit in the class of 2023, and he was one of the top 25 prospects who surprised most outside observers by committing to Stanford. The season was rough for the Cardinal, and Stojakovic failed to find his footing in college, averaging only 7.8 points per game and shooting just 32.7% from three. He is still considered a prospect with a high ceiling, and many teams are lining up to try to secure him for his sophomore season. Stojakovic is expected to stay on the West Coast, and several good programs could be destinations. The UCLA Bruins were the favorite to land Stojakovic out of high school, and Mick Cronin is still in Westwood. UCLA struggled in 2023, but they played many young players who will reap the benefits of that experience next season. If Stojakovic can grow as a shooter, he’d be a great fit on the roster.
UCLA 2025 NCAA Title Odds: +5500
2. Oregon Ducks
If Andrej Stojakovic is interested in playing in an uptempo system with a history of producing high-scoring wing players, Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks would make sense. The Ducks recruited Stojakovic while he was in high school, and their top two players are likely to be elsewhere next season. Stojakovic could fit right into the offense as Oregon heads to the Big Ten, and if he can bounce back as a shooter, he could be a valuable floor spacer who provides good length.
Oregon 2025 NCAA Title Odds: +10000
3. USC Trojans
Eric Musselman is no stranger to utilizing the transfer portal. While at Arkansas, Musselman loaded up each offseason with a new batch of portal recruits that he tried to mold into a cohesive unit. Sometimes, it was a smashing success, and the Razorbacks could be fun to watch. Other times, it resembled an “island of misfit toys,” and the Hogs failed to make the NCAA Tournament. That was the case last season, and Musselman high-tailed it to USC after Andy Enfield left for Southern Methodist. USC has a lot of holes on the roster, and if Andrej Stojakovic wants to play in an open system while staying in California, the Trojans would make sense.
USC 2025 Title Odds: +6500
4. Gonzaga Bulldogs
Mark Few has built one of the premier programs on the West Coast at Gonzaga. Spokane is a bit of an outpost, but it’s close enough to California to be an option for Andrej Stojakovic. Gonzaga has a history of success with transfer portal players, and the Zags will need an infusion of talent on their roster. The Bulldogs made a late run in the latter half of the 2023-2024 season and again reached the Sweet 16, something they have become quite accustomed to. Stojakovic could fit in their offense as a spacer and wing player with his 6’7” frame, and Few is one of the best coaches in college basketball.
