Maui Invitational Predictions, Picks For Wednesday | UNC-Auburn, UConn-CU, Memphis-MSU, ISU-Dayton

How to Watch No. 2 UConn vs Colorado

  • TV: ESPN2 | Streaming: ESPN App
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. ET  |  Location: Lahaina Civic Center – Maui, HI

No. 2 UConn vs Colorado FanDuel Odds

  • Spread: UConn -15.5 (-102) | Colorado +15.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: UConn (-1800) | Colorado (+920)
  • Total: OVER 140.5 (-110) | UNDER 140.5 (-110)

It was a heartbreaking loss for the Huskies in the quarterfinal. They clawed back from a 13-point deficit inside the final four minutes only to fall short in overtime. Coming off a loss isn’t a spot that this program has been used to over the past few seasons, but they’ll be glad to have such a quick turnaround.

The Buffaloes were outmatched in their opening game against Michigan State. Their interior defense was woeful, allowing the Spartans to convert 70 percent of their two-point attempts and pushing them to a 72-56 win despite hitting just two triples in the entire game. Losing that convincingly on an off-night from your opponent is a concerning development.

Fading UConn is already a scary proposition. Doing so after a loss feels like a nightmare. We will back the Huskies, even at this massive number, as we expect them to bounce back in a big way here.

The Pick: UConn -15.5 (-110)

How to Watch Memphis vs Michigan State

  • TV: ESPN | Streaming: ESPN App
  • Time: 6:00 p.m. ET  |  Location: Lahaina Civic Center – Maui, HI

Memphis vs Michigan State FanDuel Odds

  • Spread: Memphis -1.5 (+100) | Michigan State +1.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: Memphis (-110) | Michigan State (-110)
  • Total: OVER 147.5 (-110) | UNDER 147.5 (-110)

If you had any doubt about the magnitude of Memphis’s win over UConn on Monday, head coach Penny Hardaway called it the biggest win of his coaching career after the game. The Tigers proved that they have the talent and composure to compete with the very best, and that can go a long way in an early-season tournament where a team is still finding its confidence.

The Spartans enter off a more mundane result, handling business against a lowly Colorado team despite making just two threes. That is an area of concern entering this game, as Memphis enters the contest second-best in the entire country from beyond the arc, shooting a blazing 47.9 percent from deep through five games.

Shooting is streaky, but we must back the guys coming off a big-time win and an elite shooting performance. Hardaway has proven he can coach with the best, and we aren’t scared to back him in this spot, even against a great like Tom Izzo.

The Pick: Memphis ML (-110)

How to Watch No. 5 Iowa State vs Dayton

  • TV: ESPNU | Streaming: ESPN App
  • Time: 8:30 p.m. ET  |  Location: Lahaina Civic Center – Maui, HI

No. 5 Iowa State vs Dayton FanDuel Odds

  • Spread: Iowa State -8.5 (-102) | Dayton +8.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline: Iowa State (-360) | Dayton (+280)
  • Total: OVER 142.5 (-115) | UNDER 142.5 (-105)

It took an elite performance from beyond the arc for Dayton to hang with North Carolina, where they knocked down 43 percent of their triples. It wasn’t enough with a defense that struggled to avoid fouls and keep guys in front of them throughout the second half. It leads us to glance at the over after the Cyclones also participated in a high-scoring affair after hanging 80 on Auburn despite the loss. These teams may push the pace more than expected, and we could see a similar scoring output that both displayed on Monday.

The Pick: Over 142.5 (-115)

How to Watch No. 4 Auburn vs No. 12 North Carolina

  • TV: ESPN | Streaming: ESPN App
  • Time: 11:00 p.m. ET  |  Location: Lahaina Civic Center – Maui, HI

No. 4 Auburn vs No. 12 North Carolina FanDuel Odds

  • Spread: Auburn -4.5 (-110) | North Carolina +4.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Auburn (-192) | North Carolina (+158)
  • Total: OVER 165.5 (-110) | UNDER 165.5 (-110)

The slow starts against quality opponents have given North Carolina an uphill climb to start the year. A 15-point halftime deficit at Kansas a few weeks ago was ultimately too much to overcome, and it took every ounce of effort for them to bounce back from a 21-point deficit against Dayton on Monday night to complete the second-largest comeback in program history. Auburn is a tough, physical team that won’t let them back into the game as easily as the Flyers may have. Look towards the Tigers to get out fast in the first stanza.

The Pick: Auburn -2.5 1H (-104)
