5) Duke is Rightfully the Favorite to Win
Duke has absolutely looked the part of a championship team not only throughout the first two games in the tournament but the season as a whole. The Blue Devils have taken care of the ball, made it a point to get to the free-throw line, and attacked and exploited mismatches when they've been able to. The ACC squad has the roster to get the job done, and they've proven why they are the favorite to be the last team standing.
Odds to Win National Championship: Duke +230
1) Cooper Flagg Looks Healthy
Cooper Flagg suffered an ankle injury in the first game of the ACC Tournament that sidelined him for the team's remaining ACC Championship run. Many fans immediately feared the freshman sensation may miss the remainder of the season following the injury. Still, Flagg quickly put their worries to rest when he suited up in the team's first matchup in the NCAA Tournament. Not only did Flagg manage to suit up, but he looks like he hasn't missed a beat, averaging 16 points, eight rebounds, and 5.5 assists through two games.
2) Tyrese Proctor Could Elevate Duke to Another Level
Tyrese Proctor is only averaging 12.5 points on the season. Still, the Australian product has elevated his level of play since the start of the NCAA Tournament and could be the biggest reason that Duke can go on another championship run. The guard has been on a tear over the recent stretch, but on Sunday, his 25-point outing against Baylor proved just how much of a difference-maker he can be. Proctor shot 90% from the floor in the win over the Bears, which included seven three-pointers. If he can continue playing at this level, Duke will be a hard team for anyone to defeat.
3) The Blue Devils Are a Two-Way Monster
Not only does Duke have the firepower to outscore any opponent, but the way their defense has played through two games has made them look like a true two-way monster up to this point. In their first matchup, the Blue Devils outscored Mount St. Mary's by 44 points. In their second matchup, Duke proved their dominance wasn't a fluke by steamrolling Baylor by 23 points. With the right personnel to be both an offensive juggernaut and play gritty on defense, the Blue Devils are the real deal.
4) Jon Scheyer's Team is Prepared for a Championship Run
The one aspect of a championship team that is often overlooked is the head coaching. Many look at the players as to why certain teams win or lose, and while they are the ones on the floor, it always starts at the top for championship teams with their head coach. This season, Jon Scheyer has prepared his team for every battle, which is largely why they haven't taken a loss since early February. With how locked in the Blue Devils look through two games, it's clear that Scheyer has helped his squad understand the importance level behind each game, regardless of their opponent, and if they keep that same mindset, they can get the job done.
