10) Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma has maintained its spot in the rankings all season long despite changes to its starting quarterback position. The Sooners fell short to the Volunteers in Week 4, but besides that, Brent Venables' team hasn’t taken another loss. If the offense can continue to put it together, they’ll finally be able to contribute to a defense that’s been putting together solid performances all year. And if Oklahoma can pull off an upset over No. 1 ranked Texas this weekend, they could put the nation on notice.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Oklahoma +1200
1) Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide are fresh off one of the biggest upsets of the season after their loss on the road in Vanderbilt. However, aside from their loss to the Commodores, Alabama has looked like a championship contender in every game before. The week before Vandy, Bama knocked off Georgia to put them at No. 1 in the AP Top 25. Although Kalen DeBoer’s team fell short in Week 6, his talented roster has plenty of time to make a statement as their season continues with four ranked opponents left. Considering their explosive offense and stout defense, it’s hard not to put the Tide at the top of this list.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Alabama -500
2) Georgia Bulldogs
After Georgia fell to Alabama in their Week 4 matchup, the perspective around the Bulldogs seemingly started to shift. After nearly losing to Kentucky and being dominated for most of the game against the Crimson Tide, the skepticism about Georgia’s championship potential seemed reasonable. However, in their second-half comeback against the Crimson Tide, Kirby Smart’s team seemed to refind their identity. The following week, UGA steamrolled Auburn to reclaim a Top 5 spot in the AP Top 25 rankings. Following their loss to Alabama, Georgia slots in at No. 2, right behind their fellow SEC Powerhouse.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Georgia -500
3) Tennessee Volunteers
The hype around the Volunteers seemed to be picking up steam quickly around the nation. Tennessee and freshman sensation Nico Iamaleava seemed to be on a roll to the top of the rankings before stumbling in their 19-14 loss to Arkansas last weekend. Nonetheless, the Vols have the talent on their roster to shake off their loss and finish the year out strong to clinch their spot in the postseason. And if the Volunteers find themselves in the CFP, they’ll have as good of a shot as anyone to make a deep run.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: +110
4) Ole Miss Rebels
After a monster offseason through the transfer portal, Lane Kiffin’s Rebels entered the season as a dark horse championship contender. And through six weeks, Ole Miss has looked the part besides their one bad loss against Kentucky in Week 5. After the loss, the Rebels bounced back with a dominant win over South Carolina on the road. With the offensive playmakers Ole Miss has mixed with the team’s impressive defense, they could continue to be a team to watch with plenty of time to climb the rankings.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: -130
5) Clemson Tigers
Unlike the teams above, Clemson got their first loss of the season out of the way early and it came against Georgia in a Week 1 showdown. Since falling to the Bulldogs, the Tigers have been on a terror and now find themselves back in the mix with plenty of football left to play. The team’s offense continues to gel and their defense is only getting better with more reps for their young squad. Dabo Swinney could have his team back in the CFP soon if the Tigers continue their recent success.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Clemson -115
6) Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame was on the wrong end of the first upset of the season during the team’s Week 2 loss to NIU. However, the Fighting Irish bounced back nicely with a three-game winning streak that now slots them just outside the Top 10 in the AP Top 25. If Marcus Freeman can get his team to find consistency on both sides of the ball each week, Notre Dame could be a threat to find their way into the 12-team playoffs. ND has the talent to compete with anybody. It’s just a matter of if they can put it all together.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Notre Dame -120
7) Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M continues to turn heads in the program’s resurgence under new head coach Mike Elko. Through quarterback changes and injuries on both sides of the ball, the Aggies keep winning, including their most recent victory over the No. 9 ranked Missouri Tigers. Not only did Texas A&M win, but they also annihilated the Tigers in every aspect of the game. If A&M can finish the season strong, they have a solid chance at putting their nose into the CFP conversation.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Texas A&M +140
8) LSU Tigers
Like Clemson, LSU took its first loss on the chin in the first week of the season with its opening-night loss to USC. Following that hiccup, the Tigers put together a four-game winning streak that led them to an SEC showdown against the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. With a chance to make a statement in a big-time conference battle, it could make or break their opportunity to make the postseason.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: LSU +250
9) Boise State Broncos
Boise State may be one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season. Not only do the Broncos keep on winning, but Heisman favorite Ashton Jeanty has looked unstoppable. Boise State may not be considered a championship contender, but look out if they continue to run through their schedule like they have been.
Odds to make the College Football Playoffs: Boise State +125
10) Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma has maintained its spot in the rankings all season long despite changes to its starting quarterback position. The Sooners fell short to the Volunteers in Week 4, but besides that, Brent Venables' team hasn’t taken another loss. If the offense can continue to put it together, they’ll finally be able to contribute to a defense that’s been putting together solid performances all year.
