Packers vs. Eagles Week 1 Predictions | NFL Picks Today, Best Bets

John Canady

Host · Writer

The Packers and Eagles kick off their regular season in an international showdown in Brazil. Both teams have their eyes set beyond a division championship this season, but it all starts in week one in a battle of the NFC. With each squad making big moves in the offseason, it’s time to see if the talent on paper can translate to the field.

Packers vs. Eagles

Location: Corinthians Arena (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Time: 8:15 p.m. ET | Where to Watch: Peacock

Spread: Eagles -2.5, Moneyline: Eagles -120, Total: 49.5

Packers vs. Eagles Best Bet: Packers +110

The Packers fell one game shy of the NFC Championship game last season in the first year of the Jordan Love era. Green Bay added former rushing champion Josh Jacobs in the offseason to give the Packers some versatility in the backfield. Not to mention Green Bay’s additions on the defensive side. Meanwhile, the Eagles lost in the wildcard round of last year’s playoffs after a disappointing end to a frustrating season. While Philadelphia may be favored, this matchup could go either way, especially with no home-field advantage.

Packers vs. Eagles Best Bet Total: Under 49.5

This game has the offensive firepower to be a high-scoring game, without a doubt. However, with both teams having new faces on offense, there may be an adjustment period where the offenses deal with some rust, and it may look like a defensive game at times. If I had to make a prediction, I’d say the Packers win 24-20, coming in just shy of the 49.5 total.

Packers Offensive Player to Watch: Jordan Love

Jordan Love started last season off slowly with some rough moments, as expected of the first-year starter. Nonetheless, at the end of the season, Love looked to figure things out on the fly and led the Packers to the postseason while passing for 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during the season. Now, the 25-year-old looks to prove that he’s one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and he’ll get his chance against a stout Eagles defense.

Packers Defensive Player to Watch: Xavier McKinney

The Packers made headlines at the start of free agency by inking Xavier McKinney to the most expensive contracts for a safety in the NFL. The former Giant comes to Green Bay to make an immediate impact in the Packers’ secondary, which will be much needed on Friday night. The Eagles will test the Packers’ secondary in week one, and McKinney will look to prove he’s worth every penny on his new deal.

Eagles Offensive Player to Watch: Saquon Barkley

In one of the offseason’s most significant moves, the Eagles managed to lure star running back Saquon Barkley away from a division rival in the Giants. Barkley joining Jalen Hurts in the backfield in Philadelphia could spell trouble for opposing defenses if the dangerous duo can find a rhythm quickly. With the former Penn State star able to catch out the backfield while posing the threat of being an explosive rusher, Philly will be hard to stop.

Eagles Defensive Player to Watch: Jalen Carter

Jalen Carter shined in his rookie season with 33 total tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles. The defensive tackle lived in the opposing offense’s backfield and constantly put pressure on quarterbacks. Looking to make a leap in Year 2, the Georgia product will be depended on to make things challenging for Love. If he can limit time in the pocket for Love, it could be a long night for the Packers.
