AL ROY Odds: Yoshida Sneaks Past Henderson in Ultra-Tight Race

The American League is stacked with young potential stars, and they’re already making their names known in the Rookie of the Year race. SportsGrid has your updated MLB odds.

Stay ahead of the game and elevate your sports betting experience with SportsGrid and our daily MLB picks.

1. Masataka Yoshida +165 (Last week: +195)

If you’re looking for a difference maker that’s stepped into the Boston Red Sox lineup and hasn’t missed a beat, look no further than Masataka Yoshida. He’s older than most players in the mix at 30 but is still considered a rookie after coming over from Japan in 2023 and signing with the Red Sox.

Despite lackluster expectations for the Red Sox, Yoshida has played an integral role in keeping them in the American League playoff mix. The Japanese star has hit .308 over 357 at-bats, 12 home runs, and 53 RBI. Yoshida is coming off a three-hit game on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, which played a factor in his odds getting bet down from +195 to +165.

2. Gunnar Henderson +210 (Last week: +185)

One of the top prospects in MLB made his debut last September, and you’re starting to see him emerge as a real threat to win AL Rookie of the Year. Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson is putting together a high-end campaign.

Henderson was the favorite to capture the AL ROY last week, but he’s no longer in the driver’s seat this time around. Henderson has compiled a 2.9 WAR, 16 home runs, and a .795 OPS. He’s made significant strides offensively and defensively for the AL East-leading Orioles, but his odds have slightly taken a hit over the last week from +185 to +210.

Is Jung Worth a Props Play Tonight?

3. Josh Jung +230 (Last week: +220)

Texas Rangers third baseman, Josh Jung, is the biggest power threat on this list. He’s helped give his team more length in their batting order and been a key contributor in helping them be a contender, where they sit on top of the AL West.

Jung continues to bring high-end production to the table for the Rangers. The 25-year-old has clubbed 20 home runs and tallied 61 RBI, paired with a .801 OPS. Jung has remained a big part of the American League Rookie of the Year discussion, even after slightly taking a hit last week with his odds from +220 to +230.

4. Tanner Bibee +2500 (Last week: +2500)

There are a lot of strong, young arms in the American League, and Tanner Bibee of the Cleveland Guardians is another addition to the mix. Bibee has helped lead the Guardians back into the division race and given them more consistency in their rotation.

Bibee has posted an impressive 7-2 record over 16 starts for the Guardians. He also sits with a sparkling 3.11 ERA and 91 strikeouts. The young righty has continued to boast +2500 odds to win the AL ROY after pitching into the seventh inning against the Chicago White Sox.

5. Hunter Brown +3000 (Last week: +2500)

The Houston Astros have done a tremendous job producing quality starting pitching over the years. Hunter Brown has been no different in 2023, and he’s demonstrating powerful stuff for the club in their pursuit of winning back-to-back World Series.

The 24-year-old righty has made 20 starts for the Astros and registered a 7-7 record, along with a 4.12 ERA and 126 punchouts. The righty has helped add some depth to their rotation, but his odds to win AL ROY have continued to drop over the last week, where he’s now considered a longshot at +3000.
