Braves Place Max Fried (Strained Forearm) on IL

According to Atlanta Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, the team has placed starting pitcher Max Fried on the 15-Day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a left forearm strain.

Fried was roughed up in last Friday’s outing against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings. Braves manager Brian Snitker said postgame that the star left-hander was “working through things” and would not commit to Fried making his next scheduled start.

The 29-year-old is not expected to return when first eligible, with Bowman saying, “This won’t be a short-term IL.”

Fried previously spent time on the IL this season due to a left hamstring strain suffered on Opening Day.

The California native is the latest Braves starter to be sidelined by injury, alongside Kyle Wright, who was placed on the 15-Day IL last week with right shoulder inflammation.

Fried has made five starts for Atlanta this season, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 26.0 innings.

FanDuel Sportsbook currently has the Braves at -178 on the moneyline for Tuesday’s matchup versus the Boston Red Sox.
