Pirates @ Rays – First Pitch: 6:40 p.m.
The Tampa Bay Rays pitchers are sending opponents’ batting averages plummeting. Today’s face-off between the Rays and Pirates features Shane McClanahan on the mound for Tampa and Mitch Keller for Pittsburgh. Yesterday, the Rays managed to triumph over the Pirates with a score of 4-1, and today they’re coming in as a massive -215 favorite, with a light total listed at seven.
Keller might not get the credit he deserves, but he’s been a huge part of the Pirates’ successful start this season. His arsenal has grown with the addition of a cutter he’s been using to strike out batters left and right.
On the other side of the diamond, McClanahan has also been phenomenal, setting up a true pitcher’s duel in the Trop, a ballpark known for its under-friendly conditions.
Looking at Keller’s performance, he’s been holding his own against both lefties and righties, contributing to the Pirates’ first-place status. The under seems like a solid play in this game, but as for the Rays winning at -215? That might be a tougher call.
