Toronto Blue Jays Add Flamethrower Jordan Hicks To Bullpen

The St. Louis Cardinals recently made a significant move by trading reliever Jordan Hicks to the Toronto Blue Jays. This trade piques our interest as the Toronto Blue Jays have primarily remained under the radar this season, yet they have consistently stayed in the wild card race. The Blue Jays sit four games behind Tampa Bay for the top wild-card spot and 5.5 games back from Baltimore for the division.

Despite being 12 games over .500, Toronto is still trailing by 5.5 games from the division leaders, the Baltimore Orioles. This discrepancy is probably why the team hasn’t been receiving much attention. It also appears that the Blue Jays haven’t played their best baseball yet.

Instead of seeking a big bat to add to their arsenal, they’ve chosen to solidify their bullpen. A rotation boasting high-quality frontline starting pitchers and batters capable of putting runs on the board make this a solid mix on paper. As teams approach the deadline, it’s imperative to remember that one can never have too many strong bullpen arms.

Had the Blue Jays been in the AL Central, it wouldn’t be a stretch to consider the Jays as potential World Series contenders. However, sharing a division with the Orioles, the Rays, the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Yankees has resulted in a less favorable spotlight.

Betting odds indicate Toronto is a sleeper pick for a potential deep run in the playoffs. With the addition of Jordan Hicks to their bullpen, the Blue Jays’ odds of winning the World Series have slightly improved, currently sitting at +1500 on the FanDuel Sportsbook.

Certainly, the final two months of the MLB regular season will be compelling, especially in the AL East. Toronto’s bullpen additions and its untapped potential suggest an exciting end to the regular season and a promising postseason.
