Blue Jays @ Rays – First Pitch: 6:40 p.m.
Here’s an intriguing one: the Toronto Blue Jays squaring off against the Tampa Bay Rays. With Cy Young favorite (+400) left-hander Shane McClanahan taking the mound for the Rays, the anticipation is set high. Despite an xFIP of 4.47, which is a touch high, McClanahan’s splits are impressive. He’s been dominant against left-handed batters, and he’s maintaining a wOBA of .320 against right-handers, slightly below average but still effective.
On the flip side, it’s the Rays’ bats that are expected to deliver today. The Jays’ right-hander Yusei Kikuchi, with an alarming xFIP of 5.25 over the past 30 days, struggles against right-handed batters. And he’s bound to face a boatload of them in this matchup. We might just be in for a bounce-back performance by the Rays.
Not only are we anticipating a rebound, but we’re also setting our sights on the Tampa run line. Lay the run and a half and expect Tampa to even the score with their ace. McClanahan boasts a career 2.65 ERA over 37.2 innings against the Blue Jays, including a stellar performance against them in Toronto in mid-April, giving up just one run over six innings.
Surprisingly, the odds didn’t open north of $2, but the run line still looks like a promising bet. And with that, we’re also predicting an over in this game. Keep the overs rolling at the Trop. Today’s game might be one to see the Rays rebound with a stellar batting performance and McClanahan continuing his dominance.
