Miami Heat
The Heat may be a dark horse team interested in Dejounte Murray if he is on the market this offseason. Pat Riley has been searching for a true point guard for years now. With the Hawks star’s ability to be a facilitator, create his own offense, and defend at a high level, he could be a considerable addition to Miami. The Heat haven’t been linked much to Murray, but expect them to do their due diligence when any star is made available for trade.
5 Potential Trade Partners if the Atlanta Hawks Trade Dejounte Murray
The Hawks missed the playoffs this past season following an inconsistent, injury-ridden year. With Atlanta considering a full reset after their disappointing season, Dejounte Murray could be the odd man out. There were rumors around the trade deadline that the guard could be moved during an in-season trade, but a deal never came to fruition. Nonetheless, with the offseason approaching, Murray could be on the move. These five teams could be potential landing spots for the former All-Star.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans may not be a team that many people would think of off the bat to pull off a blockbuster trade, but with their need for a point guard, Dejounte Murray may be worth it for New Orleans to pull the trigger. With Zion Williamson playing a primarily healthy season and the Pels making the postseason this past year, they may be willing to put their chips in and pile their young players and assets up to land a difference-maker for Willie Green. If Murray were to land in NOLA, he’d immediately add an element to the Pelicans offense and defense they don’t currently have.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs are not only the team that drafted Dejounte Murray in 2016 but also the team that traded the star to Atlanta. However, San Antonio traded Murray mainly due to the team entering a rebuild and hoping to give the point guard a chance to win elsewhere. Ironically enough, two years later, the Spurs now have a bona fide star in Victor Wembanyama, and adding a talent like Murray alongside him could make San Antonio a rising threat in the West. Considering his relationship with Gregg Popovich, it wouldn't be a surprise if Murray would welcome a return to San Antonio.
Orlando Magic
The Magic are yet another team desperate for a difference-maker in the backcourt. Orlando used their lottery pick on a guard last offseason in Anthony Black, but the young playmaker is a raw talent who may need time to develop. In addition to Black, the Magic have multiple quality guards on their roster, but a move for a talent like Dejounte Murray to pair alongside Paolo Banchero could immediately elevate Orlando in the East.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers were rumored to have the strongest interest in Dejounte Murray ahead of the trade deadline. Ultimately, Los Angeles elected to stand pat at the deadline, but rumors suggested that the Lakers would revisit a trade in the offseason. With the Lakers likely looking to make changes in the offseason following their first-round exit in the postseason, Murray could be a name to watch.
