SEC Championship Game - December 7
Texas rolls into the SEC Championship Game at 12-0, and I have them squaring off with the Texas A&M Aggies for the second straight week. That’s right, Texas A&M would be 7-1 in the SEC and earn a trip to Atlanta for a rematch with the Longhorns, but without the supercharged atmosphere of their home field, it’s not near as close, and Texas takes care of business to run the table on the regular season. They grab the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff and their first SEC Championship.
Prediction: Texas 34 - Texas A&M 17

Texas (-3.5) vs. Georgia - October 19 at 7:30
The Texas Longhorns have the nation’s top defense, and we know what kind of firepower their balanced offense provides. Quinn Ewers was a bit rusty against the Oklahoma Sooners, and Texas still looked like they could have set the score in the Red River Rivalry. Georgia has struggled to run the ball and doesn’t rush the passer particularly well. The Bulldogs will be desperate to avoid their second loss, but I think Texas is the better team, and they are at home. Give me the Longhorns to win and cover.
Prediction: Texas 38 - Georgia 27
Texas at Vanderbilt - October 26 at 3:30 or 4:15
Texas follows up an emotionally-charged stretch of Oklahoma and Georgia with a trip to Nashville to play the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vandy’s 4-2 start and upset of Alabama should allow Steve Sarkisian to get his team’s attention and avoid a major letdown. Even so, Texas is in a tough spot before heading into a bye week, and Vanderbilt has shown they can run the ball and keep possession. The Longhorns have a terrific run defense and buckle down to get the win after a sleepy start.
Prediction: Texas 31 - Vanderbilt 17
Texas vs. Florida - November 9 at Noon
Texas gets a bye week on November 2 and then returns to action with a home game against the Florida Gators. Florida has a brutal stretch of games, and the Gators could be fighting for bowl eligibility, or Billy Napier could already be fired, and there is an interim coach with a team that has quit. Florida has some talent and the athletes to compete, but Texas will be fresh and has more firepower than Florida can keep up with. The Longhorns run away with an emphatic victory to improve to 9-0.
Prediction: Texas 42 - Florida 14
Texas at Arkansas - November 16 at Noon
What a season for Arkansas season ticket holders. The Razorback faithful have seen, or will see, home games against Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas. Sam Pittman’s team already beat the Volunteers in a memorable upset, and they are very capable of mucking up a game, getting a few big plays from quarterback Taylen Green, and pulling off another upset. Texas is outstanding against the run and will force Green to beat them with his arm, something I don’t think the young quarterback is ready to do yet. Texas wins a tight affair and moves to 10-0.
Prediction: Texas 31 - Arkansas 21
Texas vs. Kentucky - November 23
Kentucky looks more likely to finish with four or five wins than becoming a team capable of hanging with Texas in Austin. Quinn Ewers finishes his home career in style as the Longhorns roll the Wildcats by over 30.
Prediction: Texas 45 - Kentucky 10
Texas at Texas A&M - November 30
The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies finish the regular season with a clash in College Station. This is the renewal of a heated rivalry that has not been contested since 2011. Texas won the final game in the series, but the two schools split the last six meetings. Understand this: no atmosphere will be more intense or hateful than the one at Kyle Field on November 30. The fan bases despise each other, and this game will be personal. Texas A&M could be in the top ten by the time this game is played (look at their schedule; they could be 10-1), and I think Texas will still be No. 1. Texas has more firepower and better skill players, but the Longhorns barely escape in a classic.
Prediction: Texas 31 - Texas A&M - 28
