AL ROY Odds: Yoshida Leads Pack for Red Sox

The American League is stacked with young potential stars, and they’re already making their names known in MLB.

Below, we’ll look into the top five using odds from FanDuel Sportsbook

1. Masataka Yoshida +140

If you’re looking for a difference maker that’s stepped right into the Boston Red Sox lineup and hasn’t missed a beat, look no further than Masataka Yoshida. He’s older than most players in the mix at 29 but is still considered a rookie after coming over from Japan in 2023 and signing with the Red Sox.

Yoshida is the current odds-on favorite to win the American League Rookie of the Year award at +140. He’s posted some impressive numbers as the end of May looms, including a .878 OPS and 29 RBI. With the production and versatility he provides, there is a lot to like about his potential to take home the award.

2. Hunter Brown +700

The Houston Astros have done a tremendous job of producing quality starting pitching over the years. Hunter Brown has been no different in 2023, and he’s demonstrating powerful stuff for the club in their pursuit of winning back-to-back World Series.

The Astros right-hander has posted a 4-1 record, paired with a 3.20 ERA and 56 strikeouts. He has swing-and-miss stuff, which has added to their rotational depth this year with some of their injuries and departures. Brown is very much in the running to win the AL ROY, where he boasts +700 odds.

3. (Tie) Esteury Ruiz +1000

It’s no secret that the Oakland Athletics are struggling to produce results. Still, they have some solid young talent, with Esteury Ruiz making a difference at the big league level in 2023 and staking his claim as a part of the AL ROY discussion.

Ruiz is playing center field for the Athletics and is an absolute terror on the base paths, where he’s already recorded a league-leading 24 stolen bases. Ruiz is hitting .285, and if he can elevate his on-base percentage, he’ll undoubtedly be in the mix for the award at +1000.

3. (Tie) Bryce Miller +1000

Another pitcher very much in the conversation is Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller. It hasn’t been a perfect start to the year for M’s, but Miller has been a major bright spot and continues to pitch at a high level.

Miller has started just four games for the Mariners but has burst onto the scene with a 2-1 record, paired with a 1.42 ERA and 22 punchouts. If he can continue helping the Mariners rotation and giving them high-quality starts every fifth day, there’s no reason bettors can’t see Miller as a potential value to win the award at +1000.

5. Josh Jung +2000

The biggest power threat on this list is Texas Rangers’ third baseman, Josh Jung. He’s helped give the team more length in their batting order and has been a key contributor in helping them get off to this great start, where they sit on top of the AL West.

The Rangers infielder has already clubbed ten home runs, 30 RBI, and a .786 OPS. With the power stroke and production that Jung has shown, his +2000 price to win AL ROY feels undervalued.
