MLB AL Odds Power Rankings: Astros, Rays Making Noise

Zachary Cook

The Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays are building off strong weeks in their pursuit of winning the American League this year.
Below are the top ten favorites to win the American League from the FanDuel Sportsbook.
1. Houston Astros +300 (Last week: +350)
It wasn’t a perfect start to the regular season for the Houston Astros, but the defending World Series champs have made up for that over the past two weeks. The Astros are 7-3 over their last ten games and have seen their odds to win the American League bet down from +350 to +300.
2. Tampa Bay Rays +350 (Last week: +400)
The Tampa Bay Rays closed out their picture-perfect April atop the AL East, but they still only hold a 3.5-game lead, despite owning a 23-6 record. With their elite early season play, the Rays have again seen their American League odds rise from +400 to +350.
3. New York Yankees +550 (Last week: +460)
Even though the New York Yankees sit at .500 on the year, that hasn’t stopped them from holding the third-shortest odds to win the AL. In saying that, they have seen those odds drop from +460 to +550 over the last week after suffering four straight losses.
4. Toronto Blue Jays +600 (Last week: 650)
Two losses in a row for the Toronto Blue Jays shouldn’t overshadow their strong run to close out April. Toronto has posted a 7-3 record over their last ten games, and their odds to win the American League have been bet down from +650 to +600.
5. Minnesota Twins +850 (Last week: +950)
The Minnesota Twins have been a positive story in the American League, which has seen them post a 17-12 record atop the AL Central. The Twins hold a +26 run differential and have continued to see their odds of winning the pennant rise from +950 to +850.
6. (Tie) Seattle Mariners +1400 (Last week: +1200)
It hasn’t been a great week for the Seattle Mariners, who struggle to find consistency. They sit at 4-6 over their last ten games and have seen their odds to win the American League drop as a result of this week from +1200 to +1400.
6. (Tie) Los Angeles Angels +1400 (Last week: +1500)
You’re starting to see the Los Angeles Angels bring more to the table. They’ve recorded a 6-4 record over their last ten and are now above .500 overall. As a result, the Angels’ odds of winning the AL have been bet down from +1500 to +1400.
8. Cleveland Guardians +1800 (Last week: +1800)
There have yet to be a lot of positives regarding the Cleveland Guardians through April. They sit at 14-15 overall but have struggled to move the needle. In saying that, better times are ahead with this roster, and they continued to boast +1800 odds to win the American League.
9. Texas Rangers +2000 (Last week: +1600)
Even though the Texas Rangers have won three straight games and continue to occupy the top spot in the AL West, Bruce Bochy’s club has seen their odds to win the American League fall off, dropping from +1600 to +2000. Has Jacob deGrom’s injury altered the line that much, or does this revolve around the Astros’ recent surge?
10. Baltimore Orioles +3000 (Last week: +4000)
The Baltimore Orioles continue to prove that last season was no fluke. The O’s have put together an 8-2 record over their past ten games and boast a solid 19-9 record overall. With their recent elite stretch of play, the Orioles have seen their odds to win the AL jump from +4000 to +3000.
