Nuggets, Avalanche Favored to Win 2023-24 Championships

The past few years in the NHL and NBA have seen a boom in the state of Colorado, with the Avalanche and Denver Nuggets constantly contending. Both teams are the favorites to win their respective league titles in 2023-24. The Nuggs are coming off winning their first NBA title in franchise history, while the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup just a year ago. These teams are primed to be contenders over the next few years and have built teams that can have sustainable success, highlighted by superstar talent and depth.

Avalanche +800 to Win Stanley Cup

After winning the 2022 Stanley Cup, the Avalanche were knocked out in the opening round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Seattle Kraken. It wasn’t exactly a year to remember for the Avalanche, but they did deal with a big chunk of injuries, most notably to their captain Gabriel Landeskog, who missed the entire season. Unfortunately for Colorado, Landeskog has already been ruled out for the 2023-24 season, which is a big blow. Still, the Avs know the type of player they’re missing in their lineup now and will have the money to spend and the ability to get them.

With Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar all still in their prime, it’s hardly a surprise that the Avalanche are once again listed as a Stanley Cup favorite. Being eliminated early in the playoffs this season should help Colorado recover and have a good offseason, putting them right back in the driver’s seat as the class of the NHL in 2023-24. They may be listed as the odds-on favorite, but their +800 price is still very appealing to target.

Nuggets +460 to Win NBA Championship

The Nuggets weren’t expected to take home the NBA Championship this season, but they were at least supposed to be in the conversation after a strong offseason and their star players showing up healthy. Nikola Jokic entered the regular season coming off back-t0-back MVP awards, and you can make a strong case that he should have taken home his third in a row, but instead, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers won his first. Voter fatigue is real, and Jokic had a very strong case in his own right. Regardless, the Joker got the last laugh, winning NBA Finals MVP while capturing his first NBA title.

The majority of Denver’s roster should stay intact in the offseason, meaning the Nuggets will continue to be favorites for good reason. With Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon, the Nuggets match up well with anyone, and they won’t be going away anytime soon. The NBA is a star-driven league, and you can certainly see the path toward a repeat. In saying that, there’s a good number of elite teams in the NBA, and the Nuggets will be hard-pressed to repeat. They undoubtedly will be in the conversation, but their +460 price tag is much less appealing than the Avs number at +800.

If you were to parlay the Nuggets and Avalanche to win their respective titles, the price is currently at +4940.
