Dre Greenlaw, LB
Dre Greenlaw is another underrated playmaker on the 49ers defense. Alongside Fred Warner, the San Francisco linebacker duo is among the best in the league. The Arkansas product has 120 combined tackles on the year and 1.5 sacks. With his later quickness and sideline-to-sideline speed, Greenlaw could be a key to success for his team against the Chiefs.
Christian McCaffrey, RB
Christian McCaffrey is undeniably one of the most important players for the 49ers. McCaffrey put together an MVP-caliber season with 1,459 rushing yards, 564 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns. The explosive running back adds an element from the backfield that makes the San Francisco offense dangerous, especially with an offensive mind like Kyle Shanahan calling the plays.
Nick Bosa, DE
Nick Bosa is the type of talent that can disrupt an opposing team's offensive game plan on his own. The Ohio State product has been an absolute force to reckon with since his rookie season, and with 10.5 sacks already on the year, Bosa looks to add to his total in the Super Bowl matchup against the Chiefs. With his ability to rush the passer, the Niners need him to have one of his best games to slow down Patrick Mahomes.
Fred Warner, LB
Fred Warner has been one of the biggest keys to the 49ers defensive success since 2018 as a rookie. Warner is one of the more underrated linebackers in the league, and with his versatility in coverage, he makes it challenging to gain yards against San Fran. In the team's 2020 Super Bowl matchup against Kansas City, the BYU alum finished with five tackles and an interception. This year, he looks to outdo his last performance and put his team on the winning side.
Brandon Aiyuk, WR
Brandon Aiyuk has emerged as not just one of the top receiving options for the 49ers but a top wide receiver in the league. The playmaker finished the season with 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Putting pressure on the Chiefs' secondary will be vital come Super Bowl Sunday, and if the Niners can get Aiyuk going, it'll open up their offense.
Trent Williams, LT
Trent Williams may not be talked about as much, but his role in the 49ers offense is as vital as anyone else. Williams has been among the best left tackles in the league for many years. The 35-year-old is a great pass blocker and has been known to be used as a lead blocker on some of the best running plays for San Francisco. His success against the Chiefs' defensive line will be a big matchup to keep an eye on.
Deebo Samuel, WR
Deebo Samuel may be one of the most versatile offensive players in the league. Samuel ultimately invented the "wide back" position with his success in the backfield. Although he's been dealing with injuries, when he's healthy, he can make big-time players and turn a dead play into a scoring play at any second. The South Carolina product could put together an all-around performance in the Super Bowl.
George Kittle, TE
George Kittle is one of the best tight ends in the league. He can do it all, whether blocking in the rushing game or being a lethal weapon in the receiving game. Kittle brings the energy for the 49ers and often sets the tone for his offense to follow. When Kittle is at his best, he adds another playmaker to the San Francisco team, making it hard for NFL defenses to stop.
Brock Purdy, QB
Brock Purdy has been given a lot of media backlash this season despite his impressive 31 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. Many have labeled Purdy as just a "game manager," but he's shown throughout the playoffs that he is more than that. The former Mr. Irrelevant has the chance to put the critics to rest in the biggest games of the year.
Charvarius Ward, CB
Charvarius Ward is having a career year of his own this season. With 56 tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble, the 27-year-old has been huge for the Niners secondary. With a matchup against his former team in the Super Bowl, Ward can win two rings with two different franchises.
