Trae Young at +11000? Are you kidding me? Trae Young was a late add to the All-Star game due to other injuries on the roster, but come on now. Young has averaged about 27 points and 11 assists per game and isn’t afraid to shoot from anywhere. If Trae gets hot early, who is to say he won’t take a shot every time he touches the ball? He can be a high-volume shooter from anywhere on the floor when he wants to, pull off any flashy dunk possible, and knows how to put on a show. As the Minnesota Timberwolves have become one of the best teams in the Western Conference, Edwards’s game has evolved immensely, so at +1000, if Edwards sees a few shots early and decides to keep firing, it will be game over.
Damian Lillard (+1000)
Despite this being Damian Lillard’s eighth All-Star game selection, he has never won a game MVP, and we all know his game fits the moment. In last year’s All-Star game, he took a game-high 20 three-point attempts, and in 2021, Lillard tied the game-high with 16 three-point attempts. This year will be Lillard’s first time starting in this game, so he has even more upside than in previous years coming off the bench. At +1000, Dame Time is undoubtedly in play here.
Donovan Mitchell (+2000)
Last year, if it weren’t for Jayson Tatum going nuclear as he dropped 55 points, Donovan Mitchell would have been named the All-Star MVP. He dropped 40 points himself, taking 17 threes while also dishing out ten assists. We know Mitchell’s flashy play fits the All-Star mold perfectly, and after such a strong performance last season, I find it mind-boggling that we’re getting +2000 odds on him this season. Even though he’ll be coming off the bench, Tyrese Haliburton is not a lock to see a full load of minutes that a starter normally would, as the Pacers have been very careful with him in recent weeks coming off an injury. Despite the game being played in Indianapolis, I’m sure the Pacers don’t want Haliburton to go out there and play an absurd amount of minutes. I’m predicting that Mitchell will end up playing more than Haliburton, and if that is the case, his MVP candidacy will be very live at +2000.
