Updated NBA Playoffs Series Pricing: Suns Vs. Nuggets

Sportsgrid-Staff

In the Western conference, things are a bit cloudier. Before the playoffs began, the Phoenix Suns were the favorites to win the conference, but after losing two games to the Denver Nuggets, their odds have plummeted. The Golden State Warriors were briefly the favorites, but they too have lost a game. Now, the Nuggets are favored to win the West at +110.

Is There Value in the Suns-Nuggets Series?

However, I want to focus on the Nuggets-Suns series price and see if there’s value there. The Suns were favored to win the series, but after losing twice in Denver, their odds have dropped to +380. That seems like a lot to me. Despite Chris Paul’s injury, I’m not convinced that Kevin Durant and Devin Booker can’t step up and make this a series.

Can the Suns Bounce Back Without Chris Paul?

It’s true that the Suns will have to rely more on their bench players, especially if there is a game six and Chris Paul is still out. The bench was terrible in game two, with only six points from players not named Durant, Booker, Paul, or Ayton. However, I’m still curious if now is the time to buy on the Phoenix Suns. Kevin Durant is still capable of being the best player in the series, but I think Devin Booker can step up and make up for Paul’s passing ability. Defensively, things haven’t been great for the Suns, but I believe they can still be competitive.

Value in Phoenix Numbers

Despite being down 0-2, the Suns’ odds to win the Western Conference are now +800, which is bigger than their odds to win the title at any point. This makes me think that there is value in the Phoenix numbers, whether it’s +340 to win the series or -128 for Phoenix +2.5 games.

Conclusion

The Western conference is wide open, but the Denver Nuggets seem like the team to beat. However, I’m not ready to count out the Phoenix Suns just yet. With Devin Booker and Kevin Durant leading the way, they still have a shot to make this a series. The odds may be against them, but there could be value in betting on the Suns to bounce back.
