2025 MLB Home Run Derby: Top Long Shots for Monday

Gabriel Santiago

Host · Writer

MLB‘s Midsummer Classic is finally upon us, and with that, the famed home run derby will take center stage on Monday evening. The Atlanta Braves are the gracious hosts of the 2025 All-Star Game, which leaves Truist Park as the stadium tasked with hosting baseball’s derby this year.

While derby frontrunners like Cal Raleigh (3/1) and James Wood (+370) may seem enticing in this contest, let’s have a look at a couple of derby long shots.

  • Ballpark: Truist Park
  • Location: Cumberland, GA
  • Where to Watch: ESPN
  • Time: 8 p.m. ET

Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves (+1000)

To start the week with some home cooking, I see Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson listed at fantastic value in this event.

The 6-foot-4 left-handed hitter has smashed 17 home runs this season. Further back, he’s crushed 134 baseballs over the fence since joining his hometown Braves in 2022. He knows Truist Park well, which is a venue that slightly favors lefties in the batter’s box; right and right-center field are 10 feet shorter than left and left-center field.

Olson boasts an .835 OPS at home in 2025. Of his 17 homers so far, more than half have come at Truist. As a pull hitter with a mighty swing, Olson could turn some heads in familiar surroundings—I like his chances at 10-to-1 odds.

For reference, a player from the host team has won the derby twice since 2015.

Jazz Chisholm Jr., New York Yankees (+1400)

Sticking with another long-shot left-handed hitter, New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. certainly has the pop and longevity required for success at the derby.

Like Olson, Chisholm has launched 17 home runs in the current campaign. According to FanGraphs, Chisholm is operating with a 43.8% Statcast hard-hit rate this year, which is the second-highest mark of his MLB tenure. That has led to a career-best .861 OPS presently.

As a former member of the Miami Marlins, Chisholm has solid experience playing in Atlanta. Since joining the big leagues, he’s hit five home runs over 99 at-bats at Truist Park. That is his fourth-largest total amongst all active MLB venues, for what it’s worth.

Chisholm’s label of 14-to-1 odds is enticing enough to warrant action here. Of course, that makes him the longest shot of this year’s HR derby field, but events like these are often difficult for traders to accurately price.
