Anthony Edwards Leads Timberwolves to Stunning Game 7 Comeback

The Denver Nuggets had the experience of winning it all. At halftime of their Game 7 showdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Nuggets guard Jamal Murray had already racked up 24 points, while three-time MVP Nikola Jokic was on his way to a triple-double with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.

The Timberwolves, on the other hand, had a recipe for disaster. Rising star Anthony Edwards had managed just three points, and he and Mike Conley combined for a dismal 1-for-14 from the field in the first half. Neither scored in the second quarter, and Minnesota found themselves trailing by 20 points early in the third.

But in the world of basketball, the best teams can improvise on the fly, adapt, and salvage a game seemingly lost.

The Timberwolves scrubbed away the deficit with an inspired and stunning turnaround.

Minnesota shocked the defending champion Denver Nuggets with a 98-90 victory in their Western Conference semifinals series, ensuring the NBA will have a new champion for the sixth consecutive season. Edwards found his scoring touch, hitting a crucial corner three-pointer that gave the Timberwolves a 92-82 lead with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter. He finished the game with 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Though Edwards shot just 6-for-24, including 2-for-10 from beyond the arc, he had plenty of help.

Karl-Anthony Towns stepped up with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Jaden McDaniels added 23 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Rudy Gobert chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds, and Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid contributed 11 points.

Minnesota, boasting the league’s best regular-season defense, ramped up their intensity in the second half. They held the Nuggets to just 37 points in the final two quarters and outscored Denver 60-32 after falling behind 58-38 in the third quarter. The Timberwolves became only the third team to overcome a deficit of more than 11 points on the road in a Game 7 and win, overcoming the largest halftime deficit in a Game 7.

The Timberwolves-Nuggets series was nothing short of entertaining. Minnesota won the first two games on the road, but Denver bounced back to take the next three. Minnesota forced a thrilling Game 7 and emerged victorious. The T-Wolves will now face the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.
