Notre Dame vs Georgia Best Bet ATS: Bulldogs -1.5 (-105)
What an interesting matchup in the Allstate Sugar Bowl between the Fighting Irish and the Bulldogs. The last time these teams faced off was in 2019 when the Bulldogs came out on top 23-17. These teams have met twice in the Kirby Smart era, in which he’s posted a 2-0 record. Overall, the Bulldogs have won all three career matchups against Notre Dame. The biggest concern for the Bulldogs revolves around Riley Leonard’s mobility for the Fighting Irish. The Bulldogs have struggled against mobile quarterbacks this season, but their time off to prepare for this matchup should do wonders in that category. The Bulldogs were sleepwalking in their matchup against Georgia Tech when they were exploited similarly. I don’t suspect we will see a Smart-coached team come unprepared in a significant spot like this. The Bulldogs are being doubted heavily by the college football world and are being led by a first-time starter in this matchup in Gunner Stockton. The red flags are there, but I trust Smart more than Marcus Freeman, especially considering Notre Dame’s history in these spots.
Notre Dame vs Georgia Best Bet Total: UNDER 45.5 (-110)
Although these teams are very different from those that have faced off in previous seasons, all three matchups in this series have gone under the projected total of 45.5. I suspect we’re in for a similar football game in 2025 to kick off the year. The Bulldogs and Fighting Irish boast top defensive units, and these teams are built around running the football. As we enter this matchup, I don’t trust Stockton or Leonard to try and make this a shootout. It’s easy to envision a run-heavy approach from both sides and a low-scoring affair. These teams aren’t built to play high-scoring football games in a significant matchup like this, and I think that will ultimately show up on the field in a very defensive-minded affair.
