Comedian Adam DeVine joined SportsGrid in New Orleans. Known for his roles in Pitch Perfect, Workaholics, and The Righteous Gemstones, DeVine talked about football, his latest projects, and his first-ever Super Bowl commercial.
Early Mornings and Super Bowl Excitement
He’s no stranger to early call times as an actor, though he admits they’re the worst part of the job. But today, it’s all worth it—he’s here to discuss football and his highly anticipated Super Bowl commercial with Circle Water.
“The last time was when the Super Bowl was in New York. But this setup is way more fun—New Orleans was built for this.”
Talking Football and Nebraska’s Future
As a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, DeVine didn’t hold back on his thoughts about the team’s recent struggles and hopeful future.
“The Scott Frost years were rough,” he admitted. “When he was a player, it was amazing, but as a coach? Not so much. We had all these ‘Frost Warning’ jokes, and then it just crashed and burned.”
Now, under Matt Rhule, DeVine is feeling optimistic. “At least we have hope. He’s a positive guy, and we have one of the best recruiting classes coming in. Dylan Raiola could be the second coming of Patrick Mahomes—same haircut and all!”
Chiefs Fandom and the Super Bowl Rematch
When asked about the big game, DeVine made it clear where his loyalty lies.
“I’m a Chiefs fan, so I gotta go with Kansas City. I’d love to see the three-peat. Pat Riley owns the trademark on ‘Three-Peat,’ so I’m going to trademark ‘Four-Peat’ right now,” he joked.
Wrapping Up The Righteous Gemstones
DeVine also reflected on the upcoming final season of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones.
“It sucks because the cast and crew feel like family,” he said. “You spend 60-plus hours a week together, so you really miss them when it ends. But Danny [McBride] is smart—he knows how to leave a show on a high note.”
When asked who breaks character the most, DeVine pointed to McBride.
“Danny breaks a lot. And I think he does it on purpose—to keep the energy fun. Sometimes, he’ll just make a weird noise during my coverage to mess with me.”
Super Bowl Commercial Debut with Circle Water
This year, DeVine is starring in his first-ever Super Bowl commercial promoting Circle Water.
“I’ve done other commercials, but this is different. Over 100 million people will see it. My uncles, who refuse to watch my movies, will actually sit through this one,” he joked. “And my wife’s in it, too, so that’s cool.”
At first, he was skeptical about the product. “When they pitched it to me, I thought, ‘This sounds kind of dumb.’ But once I tried it, I was blown away. You can control the flavor—whether you want straight juice or just a hint of taste. They’ve already sold over a billion dollars worth, which is insane.”
In the commercial, DeVine’s character accidentally orders 100,000 Circle Water bottles, leading to surprise deliveries across America. “So, if you’re watching the Super Bowl and one shows up at your door—now you know why!”
