It’s known that the Guardians’ offense has often left something to be desired, which naturally raises questions about how much trust one can put in Cleveland against Crawford. Bibee, though relatively unknown, has been surprisingly solid for the Guardians. However, as we’ve seen in recent games, their bullpen has been a significant weakness.
Yesterday’s game had a total of 7.5 runs with Shane Bieber on the mound. Given the inconsistencies of both the Guardians’ bullpen and the Red Sox’s performance once past the fifth inning, we had hinted at the possibility of leaning to the over. With a 5-4 Sox win, the over is exactly what we got.
With an even lower total this time, the Red Sox bats seem to have found some life after a couple of big innings last night. The uncertainty surrounding both Bibee and Crawford’s ability to limit runs hints at another high-scoring game.
Additionally, wind conditions suggest an outwards direction, which could favor the hitters. Paired with two less-than-stellar bullpens, it isn’t easy to see a low-scoring affair, leading us to select the over again.
The Boston Red Sox have an intriguing lineup capable of switching hitters and predominantly left-handed bats. Seven of the nine projected batters for the Red Sox are expected to bat from the left side. Despite Bibee boasting respectable stats against both lefties and righties, his high xFIP at 5.05 might finally catch up to him in this game.
Thanks to both teams ‘ questionable bullpen and advantageous weather conditions, this game appears to be set up for a potential offensive explosion. With the Red Sox showing signs of life and Bibby’s xFIP suggesting possible vulnerability, the over could be the way to look in this game.
