Champ Kelly, Las Vegas Raiders, Interim GM
Anthony “Champ” Kelly was thrown into the fire after the firing of Dave Ziegler. Kelly served as the right-hand man to the former Raiders GM, and Mark Davis trusted Kelly to take over the reins when the owner decided it was time to go in a different direction after their slow start to the season. Nonetheless, Kelly has done his part to earn this chance. The interim GM has served multiple prominent roles throughout the league, including several seasons in Chicago as the Bears Assistant Director of Player Personnel. While it’s almost certain the Raiders will have a long and thorough hiring process, it’s fair to assume that Kelly will get not only an open audition for the rest of the year but also his chance to interview for the job once the season comes to an end.
5 Top General Manager Candidates for the Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders are entering an interesting era of Mark Davis's ownership. While the team isn't exactly going through a rebuild, they will undergo a search for a new general manager and potentially a new head coach at the end of the season. Here are five GM candidates that Las Vegas could target in the offseason.
Adam Peters, San Francisco 49ers, Assistant GM
Adam Peters will likely be one of the more highly coveted GM candidates for vacancies in the offseason. The Assistant GM started as a regional scout for the Denver Broncos in 2009 and has since worked his way up to be John Lynch’s right-hand man. And with the knowledge gained from Lynch mixed with the experience he’s gained in his climb up, Peters could be an ideal fit for Mark Davis and the Raiders as the team looks to get back to their winning ways.
Ed Dodds, Indianapolis Colts, Assistant GM
Ed Dodds is another candidate who has already turned down multiple GM positions in back-to-back cycles. Dodds is widely respected across the league. With Colts GM Chris Ballard and Dodds success scouting and drafting since 2017, the hype around the Assistant GM has only grown. It won’t be a shock if the Raiders go hard for Dodds in the offseason, but it’ll be interesting to see if he declines another opportunity or finally takes the leap.
Ian Cunningham, Chicago Bears, Assistant GM
Ian Cunningham has been one of the most popular names for not just the Raiders GM vacancy but multiple vacancies in previous cycles, including the Arizona Cardinals. Cunningham has worked his way up from his playing days as an offensive lineman to being the man helping Ryan Poles rebuild in Chicago. If Cunningham is ready to take the next step and run a team of his own, Las Vegas would be a perfect fit.
Morocco Brown, Indianapolis Colts, Chief Personnel Executive
Morocco Brown is another member of the Colts staff that has quickly climbed up the rankings within the organization thanks to his brilliant offensive mind. Brown is widely known for his ability to analyze talent and has become Ballard’s go-to guy when scouting. In his quick rise from a scout to the Chief Personnel Executive for Indy, Brown has already received interest in the past for a GM role of his own. And while he turned down the option before, who’s to say he’d turn it down again?
