Leg 1: DET-PHI Over 8 -118
Few players can tolerate the rigors of professional sports into their 40s. As Charlie Morton is discovering, he’s not one of the elite few. Now 41 years old, Morton has seen a sharp decline in his underlying metrics. At the same time, Cristopher Sánchez has shown signs of decline, pointing toward a high-scoring affair at Citizens Bank Park.
Morton’s been hard-pressed to limit damage this season. The tall righty is saddled with a 5.42 ERA, a benchmark that’s unlikely to improve. The Tigers’ probable starter gives up an alarming 1.56 walks and hits per inning pitched, compounded by his 42.3% hard-hit rate and 90.8 mph average exit velocity.
Sanchez was on an incredible run, but showed signs of regression last time out. After holding opponents to one run in six straight outings, all quality starts, the southpaw was knocked around for four runs in his most recent start. Assuredly, Sanchez’s 1.21 ERA from his six-start sample will start to work its way back up toward normal range.
These lineups can do damage, and neither starting pitcher can be trusted to limit the damage. We’re taking a stance on the over in tonight’s series finale.

Leg 2: Max Kepler to Record an RBI +195
Max Kepler is the epitome of the modern-day hitter. The Phillies’ slugger sacrifices contact and average for the sake of power and production. We expect him to be a factor against the Tigers.
Kepler flaunts his power metrics daily. The left fielder/designated hitter ranks in the 66th percentile with an 11.2% barrel rate and 69th percentile with his 90.9 mph average exit velocity. Still, his most promising characteristic is his 28.8% squared-up rate, putting Kepler in the 75th percentile.
Moreover, Kepler is starting to flaunt that power. After a tepid period through July, the German has five runs scored and two RBI over his last seven games.
Positioned in the bottom third of the order, Kepler should inherit plenty of baserunners on Sunday night. We’re betting he continues his production versus Charlie Morton and the Tigers’ bullpen and drives in at least a run.
Leg 3: Javier Baez to Hit a Home Run +800
Javier Baez doesn’t typically strike fear into opposing pitchers’ hearts. But Cristopher Sánchez should be worried about what the soft-hitting shortstop can do on Sunday Night Baseball.
While most of his metrics don’t inspire confidence, we can’t look past a few of Baez’s best characteristics. Specifically, the right-handed batter thrives versus lefties. His slugging percentage jumps 40 points, contributing to a 120-point bump in his OPS.
Furthermore, Baez possesses elite bat speed, which is likely to play well against Cristopher Sanchez’s hard-throwing profile.
Baez is putting in work in this series, and we don’t think he’s done with the Phillies yet. We’re backing the Tigers’ shortstop to continue his assault and launch another one into the bleachers of Citizens Bank Park.
