5. Donovan Mitchell, Trade
The Knicks missed out on Donovan Mitchell a couple of years ago and ended up with Jalen Brunson. It worked out well. The New York native may not be the best fit for the Knicks' backcourt, but he would bring scoring depth to the position. It's another long shot and maybe not the Knicks' first choice.
1. Kevin Durant, Trade
The Knicks have been going after Kevin Durant for a while, and he snubbed them the last time they had a chance to land him. Durant will still have two years and over $104 million left on his current contract, so the Knicks will have to clear space for him in a trade. The issue is, how much does Durant have left in the tank, and can he handle the workload that will be expected of him? He played 75 games but averaged the fewest points per game (26.2) since 2011-12.
2. Paul George, Free Agent/Trade
Paul George could be an exciting target for New York as he could be dealt in a sign-and-trade deal. He can opt out of his current contract with the Clippers, but the Knicks would not have the space to get him. George has never played a full 82 games in an NBA season and is entering his age 34 season. However, he could help the Knicks get past the second round.
3. Mikal Bridges, Trade
There is no way the Brooklyn Nets will trade the piece needed for the Knicks to end their championship drought, right?
It’s possible as the Nets are looking to rebuild again and could use the Knicks’ assets to accelerate the process. Mikal Bridges has two years at a relatively low cost and would be the fourth Villanova star with the Knicks.
4. Devin Booker, Trade
It's a long shot, but the Suns may blow this version of the team up. The four-time all-star will enter his age 28 season and would be a great addition to the Knicks backcourt. However, a deal for Devin Booker will take an excellent package from the Knicks.
