10) Purdue Boilermakers (1-6)
Purdue has had one of the roughest seasons in recent memory after a 1-6 start to the year. The Boilermakers have struggled to stack solid performances aside from nearly upsetting Illinois in overtime a few weeks back. Aside from that near win, the least points Purdue has lost this season came against Oregon State in a 38-21 loss. And with an even tougher back half of the season, the Boilermakers may finish the year 1-11.
1) USC Trojans (3-4)
The Trojans started their season off with a win over LSU and looked poised to return to the top of the nation under Lincoln Riley. However, USC’s season seemingly took a turn for the worse after a loss to Michigan in Week 3. Since that loss, the Trojans have gone on to lose three of their next four games, which now puts them just under .500 on the season.
2) Kentucky Wildcats (3-4)
Kentucky has been arguably one of the most inconsistent teams in college football this season. From being blown out at home to South Carolina, to nearly knocking off Georgia and then upsetting Ole Miss on the road, you never know which Wildcats team you’ll get on the weekend. Nonetheless, sitting at 3-4, Mark Stoops’s squad has a chance to turn things around and push for a bowl game, but with little to no room for error, they’ll need to do it quickly.
3) Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-6)
The Mississippi State Bulldogs record doesn’t truly define how the team’s season is going. Sure, the Bulldogs have struggled, but being in the SEC doesn’t help their case in the slightest. Their last three opponents have been ranked Texas, followed by Georgia, and then a hungry Texas A&M team. In each game, Mississippi State has put up a fight before ultimately falling short. Nonetheless, with a 1-6 record, their season seems to be lost already.
4) Kansas Jayhawks (2-5)
Entering the season, Kansas seemed to have hype around them with quarterback Jalon Daniels being the root. That said, a 2-5 start is not exactly what anyone expected for the Jayhawks. Despite their poor record, Kansas has seemingly been in every game before coming up short. With a couple of different plays going their way, they could be sitting over .500, but that can be said for any team in college football.
5) Stanford Cardinals (2-5)
Stanford is yet another team on this list that has struggled to find any consistency this year. At one point, the Cardinals sat with a 2-1 record following an impressive win over Syracuse. Stanford has lost four straight games while watching their season slip away from them right before their eyes.
6) Florida State Seminoles (1-6)
Florida State may be one of the biggest disappointments of the season. The Seminoles entered the year with high hopes after a strong offseason courtesy of the transfer portal. In addition, following their stellar play last season, many believed their revamped offense could elevate their squad to the next level to get over the hump. Instead, FSU has been abysmal throughout this season. With their lone win coming over California, the Seminoles have taken more than just a step back this year.
7) Auburn Tigers (2-5)
Auburn on the other hand is one SEC team that has arguably had a favorable schedule up to this point considering who their in-conference competitors are. The Tigers have struggled immensely this season between their defensive woes and their struggle to find competent quarterback play. At 2-5, Auburn’s hopes of a bowl game seem to be dwindling by the minute.
8) UCLA Bruins (2-5)
UCLA has shown fight throughout the year, but the Bruins just can’t seem to get the job done. With a 2-5 record, there’s no margin of error if DeShaun Foster hopes to turn his team’s season around. Looking ahead, UCLA will have a chance to make their first step in the right direction with a big matchup against Nebraska looming.
9) Houston Cougars (2-5)
Up to this point, the Cougars have put together an abysmal season. Despite their two wins, Houston has been shut out on more than one occasion. Losing on its own is bad enough, but struggling to score a single point at all falls on more than just the players. If Houston hopes to turn things around, they’ll have to do it quickly if they have any hope to make a push for a bowl game and end the season off on a positive note.
10) Purdue Boilermakers (1-6)
