NFC East Bold Predictions: Eagles Going All the Way?

Eagles Return to Super Bowl
Looking at the field of NFC contenders, why can’t the Philadelphia Eagles return to the Super Bowl? The San Francisco 49ers could face the same Super Bowl fall-off that the Eagles just endured, the Detroit Lions still haven’t proven that they can reach the big game, and the other NFC contenders have plenty of question marks themselves. Reports from the Eagles’ training camp have been that the Eagles have been practicing with another level of energy overall, and Jalen Hurts has looked lights out as a passer with Kellen Moore’s offense aiding him plenty. The Eagles have more than enough talent on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive changes under Vic Fangio to be optimistic about their improvement in 2024, so at +550 to win the NFC, buy your stock in the Eagles now.
Jalen Tolbert Becomes Dak’s WR2
CeeDee Lamb finally wrapped up his holdout and is set to have another career year in all likelihood, but the Cowboys don’t have much depth behind him at the wide receiver position. Brandin Cooks was a solid addition last offseason who had his moments in 2023, but he’s getting up in age and not too exciting anymore, so we’re buying all of the buzz surrounding Jalen Tolbert this summer. The 2022 third-round pick hasn’t had too many opportunities to see the field thus far in his career, but it seems like he’ll have every opportunity to be a big factor in this Cowboys’ offense from the jump.
Brian Burns Surpasses 15 Sacks
There aren’t too many reasons to be too excited about the New York Giants in 2024, but if you love to watch some good defense, the Giants’ defensive front has a chance to be one of the best units in football. Newly acquired Brian Burns is expected to be a force off the edge, and now that he has other elite players next to him on the defensive line, he won’t see as many double teams, opening up the door for Burns to reach the 15-sack mark.
Quinyon Mitchell Wins Defensive Rookie of the Year
The Philadelphia Eagles overhauled their secondary this summer with new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio entering, and first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell is expected to be deployed in the secondary in various ways immediately. This past draft class was notoriously weak on the defensive side of the ball, so it won’t take much to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year, which is precisely what we like to hear. Mitchell has the ball-hawk traits to capture the headlines and make a name for himself amongst a crowd of unfamiliar names, making his +1600 price to win DROY honors desirable.
Terry McLaurin Surpasses 1250 Receiving Yards
Terry McLaurin has done a lot at the wide receiver position with little help from his quarterback as he’s had four straight 1000-yard seasons, but now the Washington Commanders have their franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels, who has already received a ton of praise within the Commanders’ locker room. With Curtis Samuel now in Buffalo and Jahan Dotson in Philadelphia, someone has to catch the ball from Daniels, giving us the confidence that McLaurin can have a career year. His 2024 over/under is sitting at just 925.5 yards, but we like that number to go way over.
Cowboys Miss Playoffs
The field of NFC playoff hopefuls is much deeper than we’ve seen for the past couple of years, making one of the three wild card spots that much more difficult to earn this year. While the Dallas Cowboys haven’t accomplished anything in the playoffs, it’s hard to deny that they’ve been very good in the regular season and a sure-fire bet to at least reach the postseason. Not this year. In a crowd of many playoff-caliber teams, the Cowboys have a lot more pressing needs that many aren’t acknowledging, as they don’t have any running backs, no secondary depth, and a head coach who has a ton of pressure on him entering his final season. Eventually, things are going to come crashing down for the Cowboys if they can’t get over the hump, so we’ll expect them to crash and burn rather than rise to the occasion.
Giants Eye Trade-Up for Franchise QB
New York Giants fans don’t have much to be excited about on the field in 2024, but they should be scouting out their next franchise quarterback. Even if the Giants aren’t the worst team in all of football to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, they have too much pressure on them not to do everything in their power to trade up to pick the quarterback of their choosing to select a replacement for Daniel Jones finally. One way or the other, the No. 1 pick will be theirs.
