10) Boise State Broncos
Boise State is less than a year removed from representing the Group of Five in the College Football Playoffs, and as of now, the program appears to be a team that many wonder how it reached that point last season. Was it solely just the dominant play of Ashton Jeanty that got the Broncos that far? Or did Spencer Danielson's team really regress that much in one season? Regardless, the Broncos' struggles against the top competition they've faced have been disappointing so far.

1) Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State entered the season with legit championship aspirations. The Nittany Lions had the benefit of having one of the best head coaches in the nation and the return of their long-time starting quarterback, Drew Allar, under center. However, none of those factors seemed to matter, and the once top-contending Big Ten team not only lost its starting quarterback for the league but also fired James Franklin, ending his tenure at PSU. Now, Penn State remains unranked with little hope for the future moving forward at the moment.

2) Clemson Tigers
Clemson's preseason hype was real, even when outsiders believed they entered the season ranked too high. Even following their opening loss to LSU, the Tigers' struggles were overlooked given the competition. However, after barely outlasting Troy only to fall to both Georgia Tech and Syracuse, it was clear that Dabo Swinney's team wasn't the same contending group it had been in years past.
3) Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns' opening-season loss to Ohio State put an early damper on the team's hopes for the season. Since then, Texas has made slight improvements, but its inconsistency has made it difficult to put any stock in the team that many thought would be leagues above the rest this season. Losing to an unranked Florida team, despite being ranked and undefeated, is the latest example of why it's challenging to trust Steve Sarkisian's squad.
4) South Carolina Gamecocks
The South Carolina Gamecocks ended last season as one of the hottest teams in the nation, and entering this season with Heisman candidate LaNorris Sellers under center, the hype surrounding Shane Beamer's group was at an all-time high. However, underwhelming offensive line play, poor play calling, and any other way USC could shoot themselves in the foot have put them in a position where they may miss a bowl game altogether.
5) Florida Gators
Billy Napier entered the season coaching for his job. Still, after the strong end to last season, the expectation was that Florida might finally prove they're back at the top of the SEC, especially with former five-star DJ Lagway set to take over as the starting quarterback. However, nearly the opposite has happened with Lagway's underwhelming play, which has headlined the list of problems for the Gators thus far. That said, don't be surprised if Napier's looking for a job before the season comes to an end. In fact, don't be shocked if that's the case before November rolls around.
6) Auburn Tigers
Auburn was viewed as a sleeper in the SEC this season, courtesy of the strong offseason for the Tigers under head coach Hugh Freeze. Early signs suggested that it could be the case following multiple impressive wins, including a victory over Baylor early in the season. Now, everything seems to be falling apart, and the Tigers find themselves at .500 with a gauntlet of a schedule remaining.
7) Florida State Seminoles
Florida State made a statement in Week 1, knocking off Alabama, and then followed the victory up with multiple compelling beatdowns in the weeks following. However, since falling to Virginia, the Seminoles have taken a turn for the worse, dropping three straight games and now finding themselves at .500, wondering if Mike Norvell really is the guy who can lead the program.
8) Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State had a massive opportunity in front of them with the chance to contend for a Big 12 championship in a wide-open conference. The Wildcats could have been the team to represent their conference in the College Football Playoffs, but those dreams were quickly dashed following a nightmare start to the season. Now, KSU finds itself under .500, wondering what exactly went wrong.
9) North Carolina Tar Heels
Nobody expected Bill Belichick to turn around North Carolina's program in one season completely. Still, the expectations were that the Tar Heels would at least look better than they did last season. However, up to this point, that's proved to be the exact opposite. The early struggles even prompted both Belichick's camp and UNC to release a statement affirming their continued commitment to one another. If that doesn't convey anything, I'm not sure what will.
